TL;DR

Turn on CC at the bottom right of the video player and select your language to switch subtitles. Auto-generated subtitles require a GJW Premium subscription to view; creators can also upload their own .srt or .vtt subtitle files in Creator Studio.

Answer

To switch subtitles on a video or movie, turn on CC at the bottom right of the player and select your preferred language. Movies play in their original audio language by default — for example, a Korean movie plays in Korean — and you can enable English subtitles to follow the dialogue. Auto-generated subtitles are only visible with a GJW Premium subscription; when regular users see subtitles, the creator added them at upload. When casting to a TV with AirPlay, only embedded subtitles can be displayed.

Turn subtitles on or switch the language#

You can easily switch to your preferred subtitles by turning on CC at the bottom right of the video player and selecting your language.

Movies in other languages#

GJW+ Streaming offers a wide variety of movies in different languages from various countries. How the languages work:

  • A movie plays in its original audio language by default — a Korean movie plays in Korean.
  • You can enable English subtitles via CC to follow the dialogue.
Info

If you would like additional subtitle languages added to a movie, contact the film producer directly.

Auto-generated subtitles#

Auto-generated subtitles require a GJW Premium subscription in order to be viewed. If subtitles are visible to regular users, it is because the video already had subtitles added at the time of upload.

For creators: add or remove subtitles#

  • To add subtitles, go to Creator Studio, click Subtitles (the last item in the left-hand menu), and upload your subtitle files.
  • Supported subtitle file formats are .srt and .vtt.
  • If you prefer not to use the automatically generated subtitles on your video, open that video's Subtitles page in Creator Studio and delete them.

Subtitles on TV (AirPlay)#

AirPlay can display only embedded subtitles. If a video cast to your TV shows no subtitles, that video was uploaded without embedded subtitles.
