The UK is supplying Ukraine with more long-range Storm Shadow cruise missiles to enable Kyiv to disrupt Russian military operations targeting Ukrainian civilian infrastructure before winter sets in. Bloomberg reports this , citing informed sources.

In particular, the supply of British cruise missiles was discussed between Prime Minister Andy Burnham and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the Ukrainian leader's visit to London.

Britain and other Ukrainian allies are stepping up their support for Ukraine after US President Donald Trump announced an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin last week to supply Russian diesel fuel to global markets.

As Zelenskyy noted during an interview with Piers Morgan, he has felt betrayed in recent days by events related to the fuel agreement, Trump's announcement of an "energy ceasefire," and problems with Ukrainian military access to Starlink satellite communications.

The UK has been supplying Strom Shadow missiles to Ukraine since 2023, although their use was initially limited to permission to use them on Ukrainian territory. In late 2024, the Ukrainian military expanded the use of these missiles, gaining the capability to strike military targets deep behind Russian lines.

According to three sources, the UK considers the use of Strom Shadow to strike Russian targets used by Russia to strike civilians and civilian infrastructure in Ukraine as a defensive measure.

As sources noted, Russia has increased production of jet-powered drones and missiles in recent months to escalate attacks against Ukraine, and therefore it is important that Kyiv be able to counter Russian efforts.

The US presidential administration called on Kyiv to stop drone attacks on Russian oil refineries, but on October 15, Ukraine resumed these attacks in response to persistent Russian strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities.

The sources noted that amid tensions between the positions of the British and American governments, Britain does not believe that Ukraine should stop its strikes until Moscow refuses to strike Ukraine.

At the same time, the British government declined to comment. It also did not specify how many Storm Shadow missiles were transferred to Ukraine during the war.
