The Crimean Bridge could become a target for Ukrainian ballistic missiles, but the Russian occupiers have a very sophisticated air defense system there. This was stated on Radio NV by Andriy Ryzhenko, retired Captain First Rank and Deputy Chief of Staff of the Ukrainian Naval Forces from 2004 to 2020.
Answering a question about the production of Ukrainian ballistic missiles and their initial targets, he noted that a cruise missile flies horizontally, while a ballistic missile falls from above, effectively entering near space.
"The FP-7 missile, for example, reaches an altitude of 65 kilometers, while its current range is about 200 kilometers. This means the bridge could become a target. It all depends on the type of explosive charge this ballistic missile delivers and whether it can penetrate air defense systems," Ryzhenko said. He added that the Crimean Bridge's air defense system is "very serious," as it includes S-400 missile systems capable of countering ballistic threats.
"The main thing is how many of these missiles we'll have and when they'll appear. Because this story has been going on for quite some time," the expert emphasized. Ryzhenko recalled that from the very beginning of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' creation, we had the Tochka operational-tactical missile system. This is a ballistic missile with a tactical range of 120 km.
"This missile is powerful. And the FP-7's characteristics more or less remind me of this missile. It may fly a little further. But its operational characteristics are unclear right now," the retired captain noted. He also recalled the Ukrainian Sapsan project, which launched in 2006. "The missile was quite powerful. It reminds me of the Iskander... Back then, the Sapsan's range was actually 500 kilometers, and it could carry 500 kilograms of explosives in its warhead," the expert said.
"This is essentially a finished product. I'm a little confused as to why we didn't continue its development and bring it to completion. Especially since it's now 500 kilometers, not 200. This rocket could be very easily modified, and it would fly the way we plan for the FP-9—900 kilometers," Ryzhenko noted.
He emphasized that the missile boasts very high speed and sufficient accuracy, which means it could significantly change the situation on the battlefield.
"These strikes could have a very serious strategic effect: both military and political," the expert emphasized. Russia has strengthened the defense of the Crimean Bridge in occupied Crimea , creating a multi-layered defensive zone. Footage of the new fortifications was published by the Telegram channel Exilenova+.
Russian occupiers are preparing for possible attacks and have therefore established a multi-level defensive zone.
It is indicated that several lines of defense must cover the bridge from possible attacks by surface and underwater unmanned boats of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. According to available information, the main purpose of such structures is to protect vulnerable elements of the illegal strategic facility from potential attacks. Furthermore, Russian FSB ships patrol the waters.
Russian occupiers are trying to protect Crimea's main strategic asset from a potential attack as much as possible.

Video Summary
AI GeneratedRetired Captain Andriy Ryzenko discusses the potential for Ukrainian ballistic missiles, such as the FP-7, to target the Crimean bridge. While these missiles offer strategic advantages over cruise missiles due to their trajectory, the bridge is protected by sophisticated, multi-layered Russian air defenses, including S-400 systems and naval patrols.
