In 2026, Ukraine launched thousands of medium- and long-range drones into Russia and the occupied territories, striking various targets across a vast area. Ukrainian medium-range strikes targeted Russian logistics, energy infrastructure, trucks, and ships. Well-known OSINT expert Clement Molin writes about this in his blog .
The Ukrainian unit of "Ptahi Madyara" continues to strike energy infrastructure in the occupied territories. Since the beginning of July, 240 electrical substations and transformers have been hit, primarily in Crimea and the south. Ukraine's latest strikes have shifted focus from Crimea to the southern regions of the occupied territories. All electrical substations in Crimea have now been repeatedly hit, and most have been out of service for several months. The fact that Ukraine has struck 240 power substations in two months demonstrates that this strategy is less about winter preparations and more about cutting off power to industrial facilities, cities, and the military. Over the same two months, Russia has struck approximately 40 power substations in Ukraine. Russia hit four times more gas stations than Ukraine. However, it should be noted that Ukraine destroyed over 100 fuel trucks, meaning many stations were left without fuel for several weeks. In recent weeks, Ukraine has continued to carry out numerous strikes against trucks using medium-range drones. Since the beginning of May, at least 1,785 trucks and other vehicles have been hit within a medium-range zone—between 20 and 200 kilometers. Many of them were carrying equipment, troops, supplies, ammunition, or fuel. Numerous videos from the occupied territories continue to be published, showing numerous destroyed trucks along the roads. The Rostov-Crimea road, as well as supply routes towards Donetsk, remain priority targets. The Russian strategy for countering these strikes involves organizing high-value vehicles into columns, escorted by air defense systems. This is effective to a certain extent, but can also be very risky: large columns are highly visible and become easy targets. The Black Sea campaign that unfolded in July against Russian "shadow fleet" vessels appears to have concluded or been postponed. However, operations in the Black Sea continue, as demonstrated by the strikes on Novorossiysk two days ago. Ukraine now appears to be targeting energy infrastructure, trucks, air defense systems, radars, electronic warfare systems, and rear bases. This campaign is occurring in parallel with long-range strikes deep within Russia. The main challenges facing Ukraine now are: development of Russian means of suppressing Starlink; countering the Russian campaign of medium and long-range strikes, especially with the use of Geranium-4; continued pressure on Russian logistics and an increase in the number of strikes; - search and destruction of Russian Iskander launchers and air defense systems.
