Ukraine takes the war from Crimea to Moscow and beyond the Urals

The Ukrainian Defense Forces are fully capable of cutting off the Russian invaders' land corridor to occupied Crimea . The war is already being felt on the peninsula. The same could happen in Moscow and beyond the Urals.

Kirill Veres, commander of the 20th separate K-2 unmanned systems brigade, a colonel in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and a Hero of Ukraine, said this in an interview with the online publication Ukrainska Pravda. "When we first flew to Crimea and the Sea of Azov, each aircraft would take on 40–50 targets at a time. Someone even shouted, 'Let's pick someone fatter!' Well, now we have one less fleet," Veres said. In his opinion, it would have been possible to drive the Russian fleet out of Crimea earlier.

"They would have destroyed it earlier, but we had a lot of inputs that couldn't be done in the first few days. It's impossible, it's impossible, and then there's another 2%, another 2%. But that's a question for our senior management—either I can do it or I can't," he said.

At the same time, Veres emphasizes that “we must reach out to the entire Russian Federation through Crimea.”

According to his observations, in the Russian Federation “they have already started howling.”

"Now, perhaps, I'll express my personal opinion: I don't understand why we're pacifistic. We warned them to leave Crimea. We didn't destroy that bridge. I'm not used to this method; I have a completely different perspective. War is war. I'd blow everything up first and then start talking. But fortunately, I'm not in charge of this operation. So the decision has been made, and we're acting quite humanely," the commander emphasized.

Veres added that there are currently no resorts, electricity, or fuel on the occupied peninsula.

"People understand that war has come to them too. Young men and women, welcome to our conditions. Now, please, decide: do you want to continue the war? Is it interesting to you? We started it in Crimea, but it could just as easily be carried to Moscow and beyond the Urals," Veres emphasized.

The military man noted that the current decision is to reach out to the occupiers in Crimea.

In his opinion, Russians are already “getting the hang of it.”

"We'll reach all of Putin's allies. If we fly 1,800 kilometers, then, believe me, the same plane will fly 2,200 and 2,300 kilometers. We've slightly changed the theater of operations. It's not like we're the only ones being hit," Veres said. "We can now take the war anywhere in the world against any country that is committing aggression against us. I believe this is effective. And it means losing our navy and our electricity," he added. The military man is also convinced that the Defence Forces are capable of cutting off the land corridor. Veres noted that the current summer period in the war can be characterized as a season of "deep penetrations and deep defeats," as the Ukrainian Defense Forces are launching attacks on the front line and immediate rear (front strikes), as well as strikes into the enemy's operational depth (middle strikes).

The commander noted that the K-2 brigade's drones can fly wherever there is enough fuel.

"1,500–2,000 kilometers is possible, but that's not our format; we don't do that. We have other units in the SBS that operate over longer distances. Our current maximum strike range is somewhere between 500–600 kilometers, which would include Crimea and the Black Sea," Veres emphasized.

According to him, just two months ago we had to fly a maximum of 100 kilometers, because then “we didn’t need to go further.”
