Immediately after the elections in Russia this fall, a new wave of mobilization will occur. And this event could trigger irreversible processes , after which Russia will never be the same. The famous Russian Z-blogger, "angry patriot" Maxim Kalashnikov , wrote about this in his blog. He noted that, according to rumors, the Kremlin will carry out mobilization without any announcement in two stages.

The first will take place in late October or early November, the second in the spring. The target is approximately 500,000 new recruits. The authorities will not touch Moscow, St. Petersburg, or the ethnic autonomous regions that "don't understand" this war and might rebel.

"This is a spiraling systemic crisis. Because to support such an operation, which coincides with the peak of budget revenue and fuel shortages, we will have to resort to extremely painful economic measures. Furthermore, this will create intense hostility among the regions toward the Moscow metropolitan area, St. Petersburg, and the autonomous republics. This will, in some ways, recreate the atmosphere in the Soviet Union in 1990-1991. Dangerous tensions are also possible among the troops," Kalashnikov wrote.

He doubted that a new mobilization would help Russia win the war. "Modern wars aren't won with masses of infantry... Otherwise, the Magyar guys will reap abundant spoils. Remember the enemy's plans to exterminate infantry with drones? Up to 50,000 a month? In short, we're entering a dangerous time. A turbulent one," the Z-blogger concluded. Russian Z-bloggers have begun openly discussing Russia's preparations for a new wave of mobilization. However, they believe that such a mobilization, given the Russian army's massive losses in Ukraine, would "explode" Russia. Ukrainian intelligence has detected signs that Russia is preparing a new wave of mobilization immediately after the staged State Duma elections on September 21, 2026, likely in the first days of October. The campaign could involve between 300,000 and 500,000 new recruits. Preparatory measures are already visible. Russia has seen a sharp increase in job postings related to military registration and enlistment administration—positions responsible for processing new recruits into the armed forces. Such staffing increases are only necessary if authorities expect a large influx of conscripts. Russia’s first—and so far only—wave of mobilization took place in 2022 and triggered widespread public backlash. Roughly one million people left the country, most of them educated professionals who represented an important segment of the labor force. After that, the Kremlin abandoned open mobilization.

Instead, it turned to money. Then Russia relied almost exclusively on contract soldiers, offering generous signing bonuses and regional financial incentives to offset battlefield losses.
