Ukraine destroys targets with M39 ATACMS from Turkey in Belgorod, Kursk, and Bryansk regions

Ukraine may receive the M39 ATACMS from Turkey, with a range of 165 km. According to Defense Express , this would leave all Russian tactical airfields outside the strike zone.
However, the operational zone includes areas of the Belgorod, Kursk, and Bryansk regions of the Russian Federation, from which the enemy is launching ballistic missiles at Ukrainian cities. These include 9M723 Iskander ballistic missiles armed with cluster munitions.
Moreover, analysts note that within the conventional 165-kilometer kill zone, taking into account the necessary distance from the front line, there are a number of so-called "droneports"—Shahid launch sites. For example, "Khalino" in the Kursk region, "Nyavlya" in the Bryansk region, and also within the captured Donetsk airport. "This means that even despite the limited range of 165 km, ATACMS ballistic missiles can be used effectively," experts believe.
The publication also noted that the longest-range ATACMS versions are the M57 and M39A1, with a range of approximately 300 km, while the shortest range of the first version of this ballistic missile, designated M39, is 165 km. They also differ in their warheads: the M39 and M39A1 carry cluster warheads containing 950 and 300 M74 submunitions, respectively. The M57 version is equipped with a WDU-18/B HE unitary warhead weighing approximately 250 kg and configured for air-burst.
Turkey operates the M39 version of the ATACMS missile, also designated MGM-140A Block 1—the first version of this missile, which uses a cluster pod and has a range of 165 km. Seventy-two of these missiles were purchased in 1996 and delivered in 1998.
As reported, the official minutes of the US Congressional meeting on August 6 stated that Turkey sold Ukraine 70 M39 ATACMS ballistic missiles and 12 M270 multiple launch rocket systems, the tracked version of the Haimars, as well as tens of thousands of cluster munitions.
Since these are American-made weapons, the US State Department issued the permit for their resale. In such cases, Congress must also be notified.
The initial cost of these weapons was $255.9 million. The document does not specify how much Ukraine paid for these weapons from Turkey. According to Military, the M39 ATACMS, which is included in the agreement, is the first production version of the missile. It has a maximum range of approximately 165 km, is equipped with an autonomous inertial guidance system with laser gyroscopes, and lacks a backup GPS satellite correction system. The missile has relatively low accuracy, which is compensated for by its powerful 560-kilogram warhead. It carries 950 cluster submunitions designed to destroy personnel, unarmored vehicles, air defense systems, and other flat targets.
