Around 1,500 reports of drones being detected and shot down have been recorded over Moscow and the surrounding region , according to the OSINT project DroneBomber on the social network X.
According to an analysis by a Russian monitoring channel, approximately 93% of the drones, or about 1,400 units, were shot down at the first and second lines of defense within the region.
In addition, approximately another 6%, or up to 100 drones, reached the third line of the Moscow Ring Road. According to the monitoring channel, only one drone reached the Russian capital.
"Between 12:00 AM on July 1 and 11:59 PM on July 31, 6,225 UAVs were flying toward the Moscow region. Most of them were neutralized by air defense forces on the distant approaches. 780 drones were destroyed as they approached Moscow," Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin wrote on his page.
Maps included with the analysis show the dense distribution of interception sites around the capital and Russian air defense positions.
It is indicated that, judging by this sample, the drones tested approaches from all directions, but did not find open corridors for a breakthrough. Analysts noted that confirmed targets hit over the past two months include the Kapotnya oil refinery (several strikes in June), the space communications center in Dubna, Wildberries warehouses and logistics facilities, and certain industrial zones. Some damage to homes from debris from downed drones was also recorded.
Researchers note that the available data does not indicate that Russian air defenses around Moscow are exhausted. They estimate that the system remains effective.
Media previously reported that on August 6, the Russian city of Yaroslavl was attacked by drones, with a large oil refinery reportedly hit. An oil refinery in Bashkortostan was also attacked. Local residents posted footage online of explosions, followed by plumes of black smoke in several locations. According to available reports, the attack resulted in a fire at the Slavneft-YANOS refinery, the Novo-Yaroslavsky oil refinery. This refinery is one of the five largest in Russia, processing approximately 15 million tons of oil per year. Ukrainian drones have repeatedly attacked this refinery; in 2026 alone, it burned several times after strikes.
Media also reported that drones attacked Wildberries warehouses in the Tula region and Tatarstan on the night of August 5. The strike targeted a Wildberries warehouse in Oleksin, Tula region. The company's press service confirmed a fire at the facility. Tula Region Governor Dmitry Milyaev reported that a drone crashed into a Wildberries sorting center, causing a fire. Notably, this is the eighth of the marketplace's 15 largest warehouses to be struck by Ukraine.
