Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has reshuffled the commanders of Russian forces in Ukraine amid a slowdown in the Russian army's offensive and the failure to fulfill previous plans to seize Donbas. Andrey Ivanayev, who previously commanded the Vostok group, has replaced Valeriy Solodchuk as head of the Center group, which operates in the Donetsk region. Solodchuk himself has been transferred to the position of head of the Russian Ministry of Defense's Joint Logistics Service. Chief of Staff Pyotr Bolgayev has been appointed commander of the Vostok group, the head of the Kremlin announced on Wednesday, August 5. The reshuffle occurred after the pace of Russian advancement on the front slowed significantly, and the Russian Armed Forces completely failed to capture Donbas. Previously, the Russian General Staff promised the Kremlin the rapid occupation of key cities in the Donetsk region: Konstantinovka, Druzhkovka, Slovyansk, and Kramatorsk. However, the implementation deadlines for these plans have been repeatedly postponed, and currently, none of the aforementioned cities are fully under Russian military control. The Ukrainian Defense Forces are actively expanding the use of ground robotic systems, employing them to perform the most dangerous missions. The primary goal is to reduce personnel losses. This was reported in a Bloomberg article . One example was the use of a robotic platform equipped with a flamethrower in the Donetsk sector. During an attack by Russian assault units, the vehicle set fire to vegetation around enemy positions, after which the Ukrainian forces completed the defensive operation using small arms. The robot was used by the 93rd Separate Mechanized Battalion, which was one of the first to introduce robotic systems on the battlefield. According to the military, Ukrainian ground platforms can be equipped with machine guns, grenade launchers, flamethrowers, and other weapons. Ukrainian authorities expect to produce at least 50,000 such robotic systems this year. Another important milestone was the first use of a naval drone to deliver a ground combat robot. In July, the Wolly 7.62 remotely controlled platform was delivered to the Kinburn Spit, where it opened fire on Russian positions, forcing the enemy to abandon part of the coast. After completing its mission, the robot was destroyed. According to the agency's article, robots can perform a wide range of tasks, from delivering ammunition and evacuating the wounded to directly participating in assault operations and kamikaze attacks. Unmanned Systems Force Commander Robert Brovdy previously emphasized that these technologies are becoming a key tool for compensating for the personnel shortage.
