Russian businesses that developed in the temporarily occupied Crimea are leaving and planning to leave the peninsula.
Denis Chistikov, Deputy Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, announced this on Radio NV .
Answering a question about the state of the power system in Crimea, which is temporarily occupied by Russia, he noted problems with electricity and water supply. "Their Telegram channels indicate that there are power supply problems throughout eastern Crimea," Chistikov noted.
He also emphasized that for more than two weeks, Russians have been avoiding reports and information concerning the northern part of Crimea.
"Even the Telegram channels in the populated areas are silent. This indicates there's no connection and local residents can't communicate," the presidential deputy spokesman emphasized.
Also, answering a question about tourists coming to Crimea from Russia, Chistikov said that an increase in the number of tourists there was only noticed in early July, and in June there were virtually none. "Tourists aren't coming right now because of the security situation; more precisely, their numbers are insignificant. And those residents who came, who lived in Crimea and had, so to speak, two houses—a summer house and a winter house—are now leaving," he noted. At the same time, as the deputy presidential representative says, Russians who arrived in Crimea after 2014 and worked there, especially those with families and children, are now considering leaving Crimea for Russia.
"Primarily for the fall and winter period. Because they don't feel safe and believe the situation will worsen," Chistikov added.
In addition, he said, there is another "wave" that emerged last week: Russian businesses established in 2014 are now considering relocating from Crimea.
"That is, it's not just Russians who are leaving, but businesses that developed in the temporarily occupied Crimea are leaving and planning to leave as well. They're not going far, but they are now actively seeking commercial real estate in the Krasnodar Krai and Rostov Oblast," Chistikov said.
A Ukrainian drone campaign against Crimea’s power grid has left hundreds of thousands of people in the Russia-held territory without electricity for days at a time.
“Power went off and didn’t come back on, even for an hour,” for 15 days, said Olga, who lives with her husband and their baby in northern Crimea. They often had no running water, either. “Authorities have forgotten about us, that’s clear to see,” she said by telephone. Like others interviewed, she asked that her last name be withheld for safety reasons. Battering Crimea’s grid, like the Ukrainian strikes against oil refineries that have created fuel shortages in Russia, was meant to raise pressure on the Kremlin to negotiate a peace deal. But President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia has not publicly acknowledged the blackouts.
