Ukraine is capable of striking enemy targets at a distance of over 3,000 kilometers, and is currently building up its capabilities to operate at even greater distances. This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy following a meeting on long-range strikes.
According to him, "the plan for Ukraine's long-range sanctions against Russia in connection with this war is being implemented in accordance with the established priorities."
"The strategic depth of the rear, which has long been an advantage for Russia, is now becoming a particular problem for Russia's political and military leadership, since the bulk of Russia's air defenses are concentrated around Moscow, state residences, the Crimean Bridge, and St. Petersburg," the president noted. He emphasized that Ukraine has proven that its drones can reach targets in the Ural region, Siberia, and other areas far from Moscow.
"This year alone, since the launch of our long-range strike plan, we have already carried out over a thousand fire missions. Oil facilities, critical military production facilities, and systemically important Russian logistics facilities have been hit," Zelensky noted.
Ukrainian strikes against Russia
As reported earlier, he emphasized that at the meeting, the continuation of our operations was agreed upon and the list of priority targets was updated – “in accordance with the actual impact on Russia and its ability to continue and prolong this war.” "The main goal is for our long-range pressure to further push Russia toward diplomacy by complicating the production of weapons components, by causing oil and other economic losses, and by bringing this war back to its 'home turf,'" the president said.
As Zelenskyy added, Ukraine has submitted all the necessary proposals to Russia's political leadership "to end the war with a dignified peace."
"All partners know what's needed. Our precision effectively contributes to creating the conditions for real diplomacy," he concluded. Despite limited resources, Ukraine's defense forces are achieving success thanks to long-range strikes deep into Russian territory . This opinion was expressed by Colonel Markus Reisner of the Austrian Armed Forces, head of the Officer Training Institute at the Theresian Military Academy, in an interview with Ukrinform.
"Regarding the scale of the damage, I'll cite a figure from the Ukrainian General Staff, which I believe is reliable. According to this data, 43 to 45 percent of Russian oil refineries have been destroyed or damaged. This is a massive scale. Footage from social media also shows that Ukraine's 'long-range sanctions,' as the Ukrainians themselves call these strikes, are indeed having an effect," Reisner noted.
He also noted that Russia, meanwhile, is attempting to reopen old decentralized production sites. However, this creates more targets for Ukraine, while simultaneously forcing Russian air defenses to protect significantly more facilities. "Another important factor is the influence of American intelligence and artificial intelligence, particularly Palantir's MAVEN. This allows Ukraine to use its limited resources very purposefully, choosing new attack corridors and new targets. This is precisely what makes the success we are currently witnessing possible," Reisner emphasized.
Separately, speaking about the consequences of Ukrainian long-range strikes, he noted the importance of distinguishing between crude oil, on the one hand, and gasoline and diesel fuel, on the other.
