Oil prices plunge as the U.S. chooses not to strike Iran for the third straight night in a row as President Donald Trump pushes for a diplomatic end to the conflict. On Monday, the Trump administration asked the Supreme Court to allow an executive order limiting mail-in voting to move forward. The emergency appeal comes after a lower court upheld a decision blocking the president’s order ahead of November’s midterm elections.
The Pentagon is cutting off dozens more prominent Chinese universities from the Department of War’s funding. It cites concerns that American research is helping fuel Beijing’s military build-up. The Department of War announced the designation on July 23 in an update to a roster of academic and research institutions that it has determined to be risky to American research and intellectual property.
The Trump administration expands its legal campaign against state laws that provide certain benefits to illegal immigrants. With an Illinois federal court ruling last week that in-state tuition, as applied to illegal immigrants, violated the U.S. Constitution’s Supremacy Clause and are ‘unconstitutional and invalid.’ The DOJ argued the state unlawfully allowed certain illegal immigrant students to receive in-state tuition while requiring out-of-state U.S. citizens to pay higher tuition.

This is MTV Evening News, live from our global headquarters in New York City.
Here's Cary Dunst.
Good evening.
Thank you for joining us tonight.
Oil prices tumbling down as the U.S. elects not to strike Iran, now for the third straight
night in a row, and President Trump pushing for a diplomatic end to the conflict.
We now go live to NTD's White House correspondent Mari Otsu.
She is at the North Lawn.
Mari, good evening.
What's the latest?
Hey, Cary.
Good evening to you.
Yeah, that's right.
Oil prices are now sliding to a one-week low that's below $90 per barrel as the U.S. has
now halted strikes on Iran for the third consecutive night in a row.
But the White House is making clear that the military option still remains on the table
as the administration is now exploring a variety of options, from diplomacy to intense economic
pressure.
That's as the renewed U.S. naval blockade on Iranian ports remains in full effect, costing
the regime hundreds of millions of dollars per day.
Take a look.
Iran took a meeting over the last 14 days, and they asked us very nicely, please stop.
Let's meet.
President Trump saying that if diplomacy fails, he's ready to order strong military action.
The president rejecting reports that the U.S. military is facing weapons shortages amid
the Iran conflict, saying that the U.S. has lots of ammunition and that plants are rapidly
being built.
The Patriots in particular are being built.
The THAAD system is going up.
We have a lot.
Every one of our contractors is building four to five plants right now, and we're in very
good shape.
This comes as President Trump tours General Motors in Milford and touts bringing manufacturing
back to America.
The White House says since returning to office, the president has secured billions in new
investments from companies like GM, Ford, Stellantis, OpenAI and others, creating thousands
of Michigan jobs.
We can thank this gentleman right here for all these jobs coming back, and I hear it
all the time from all my connections at all the different auto plants around the Metro
Detroit area.
Jobs are coming back to America.
Meanwhile, President Trump is urging the Senate to stay in town until the Save America Act
is passed, ramping up pressure on Majority Leader Sean Thune.
This comes as the Trump administration is asking the Supreme Court to clear the way
for an executive order targeting mail-in voting before the midterms.
The order calls for the creation of a federal list of eligible voters and tells the U.S.
Postal Service to deliver mail ballots only to people on that list.
This request coming after President Trump delivered a primetime address announcing the
declassification of intelligence, he says, reveals large-scale Chinese hacking of American
voter data and has serious implications for the future of our elections.
And finally, we will pass the Save America Act through the Senate.
They don't want to have a thing called proof of citizenship, so why doesn't somebody want
voter ID or proof of citizenship?
Because they want to cheat.
Mail-in ballots are inherently corrupt, except for illness, disability, military deployment
or travel.
And carry on President Trump's schedule tomorrow.
He will be attending his late friend, Senator Lindsey Graham's funeral at the Washington
National Cathedral.
Now, both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Ukrainian President Volodymyr
Zelensky are also expected to be in attendance, and President Trump is also going to welcome
them to the White House for separate bilateral meetings.
The White House saying that with President Zelensky, President Trump will be discussing
the Russia-Ukraine war, saying now is time to end this war.
And with Israeli Prime Minister, President Trump will discuss the conflict in Iran, progress
with the trilateral framework in Lebanon, and the expansion of the Abraham Accords.
Back to you.
Thank you for that update, Mari.
And the White House says the U.S. has more than enough munitions to achieve its objectives
in Iran.
Has President Trump's push to expand domestic manufacturing helped to replenish the stockpiles?

Next, Michigan's Democrat Senate primary race could be a key indicator of the direction
in which the Democratic Party is heading.
The race is between Congresswoman Haley Stevens, who represents the party's more moderate establishment
wing, and Abdul El-Sayed, who represents the party's progressive, socialist-leaning
wing.
NDD correspondent Jason Blair has more on that.
With Michigan primaries about a week away, the state Senate race could indicate whether
the Democratic Party's socialist-leaning wing has enough footing to get the party moving
in their direction.
Rep Haley Stevens, a moderate, versus Abdul El-Sayed, a progressive.
El-Sayed is formally not a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, however, he's largely
viewed as aligned with many DSA goals.
He's also endorsed by many high-profile DSA members like Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
and Rashida Tlaib and Senator Bernie Sanders.
Let's make sure that Abdul becomes the next U.S. senator from Michigan.
Many establishment Democrats are becoming more vocal about distancing themselves from
the party's socialist wing.

Absolutely.
Abolish prisons, at least in large part.
Yeah, again, as part of a long-term program.
Yeah.
Okay, so no prisons.

And the Trump administration is expanding its legal campaign against state laws that
provide certain benefits to illegal immigrants.
With a federal court in Illinois ruling last week that in-state tuition is, quote, invalid,
it's become the latest victory in a growing series of Justice Department lawsuits.
Entity's Arlene Richards has more.
Just a day before winning a federal court challenge in Illinois, the Justice Department
filed a similar lawsuit against Colorado.
Last week, a federal judge ruled in favor of the Trump administration, finding Illinois's
tuition policy conflicted with federal law.
The Justice Department argued the state unlawfully allowed certain illegal immigrant students
to receive in-state tuition while requiring out-of-state U.S. citizens to pay higher tuition
rates.
U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois Stephen Weinhoff said in a statement,
Illinois sought to incentivize illegal immigration on the taxpayer's dime by treating illegal
aliens better than U.S. citizens living in other states, in clear violation of federal
law.
This ruling enforces the statute Congress wrote and stops the state from putting illegal
aliens ahead of American citizens.
The Illinois ruling is one of the administration's first courtroom victories in a broader effort
to challenge state laws it says give preferential treatment to people living in the country
illegally.
The administration is now making the same argument in Colorado.
The Justice Department's lawsuit seeks to block laws that provide in-state tuition,
financial aid and scholarships to certain illegal immigrant students, arguing those
benefits are unavailable to all American citizens and therefore violate federal law.
States defending the laws argue they expand access to higher education for longtime residents
who graduated from local high schools.
But the Colorado and Illinois cases are not alone.
According to the Justice Department, the Colorado case is its 14th lawsuit challenging the state
tuition benefits for illegal immigrants.
The DOJ says it has already obtained favorable rulings or settlements in Texas, Kentucky,
Oklahoma and Nebraska, while lawsuits remain pending against nine other states.

The Pentagon is expanding its blacklist of Chinese universities, cutting off research
funding over concerns that it's supporting China's military.
NDD's Washington correspondent Jack Bradley reports.
The Pentagon is taking further action to stop U.S. taxpayer funding from going to China's
military.
It blacklisted more than 90 additional Chinese universities and research institutions, blocking
them from receiving War Department research funding.
This list includes some of China's most prestigious civilian universities, and before, the Pentagon
had previously added dozens of other institutions with very apparent close ties to China's military.
U.S. officials say that they are engaging in problematic activities.
Emil Michael, Undersecretary of War for Research and Engineering, said this latest move is
protecting taxpayer-funded research and preserving the integrity of the American scientific enterprise.
The House Select Committee on the CCP found in a September report that the Pentagon funded
$2.5 billion in research projects that collaborated with Chinese institutions that support their
military.
In response, the War Department has since been taking a series of actions to cut ties
with Chinese entities due to China's military-civil fusion and 2017 national security law that
requires all Chinese entities to turn over any information to authorities upon request.
Every Chinese citizen, even a dual citizen in this country, is required to spy on our
country, and they do.
Last month, the Pentagon labeled some of China's biggest companies that operate in the U.S.
as linked to China's military, including online retailer Alibaba and car manufacturer BYD.
Almost immediately after that designation, multiple U.S. lobbyists cut ties with these
companies in order to preserve their business relationships with the U.S. military contractors.
Also last month, the National Science Foundation banned its funding from going to any entity
on any restricted U.S. government federal agency list.
Other agencies, like the Department of Energy and the National Institutes of Health, say
they're looking into implementing similar restrictions.
These are already on entity lists that the federal government has designated to be dangerous
for the United States.
Why wouldn't you have a policy on that?
We are currently reviewing the NSF policy.
This is something that we're definitely discussing, particularly after seeing NSF's policy come out.
Now this comes after years of Chinese companies paying millions of dollars to lobbyists to
persuade government entities to partner with them, now all being undone.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu departing for the United States to meet with
President Trump.
Netanyahu saying he plans to speak with Trump over the situation in Iran, as well as pay

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife on Monday departing for the United
States.
I am on my way to Washington for a meeting with our friend, the President of the United
States, Donald Trump.
We will discuss all the issues on the agenda, foremost among them Iran.
Of course, our goal is to safeguard our security while also expanding the circle of peace around us.
Netanyahu adding that it will be his eighth meeting with President Trump during the President's
second term.
I am embarking on this mission with one clear objective, to ensure the security, strength
and future of our beloved State of Israel.
I am also traveling with another purpose, to pay my final respects to our friend, a
Trump and Netanyahu could have a lot to discuss, as the war with Iran appears to have spread
to another region.
Satellite imagery released on Monday showing an oil field burning in Saudi Arabia, as the
Iran-backed Houthi terrorist group in Yemen says they targeted several sensitive crude
oil supply and transport sites in the country.
A Houthi spokesperson says the strikes were in response to what he described as Saudi
drone incursions into Yemeni airspace, as Yemen's Saudi-backed government reportedly
struck Houthi targets over the weekend.
Saudi Arabia has sought to use the Red Sea as an alternative route to transport oil to
avoid attacks in the Hormuz Strait.
However, the Houthis declared a naval blockade of Saudi Arabia over the past week.
At the same time, the United States Central Command, or CENTCOM, still maintaining its
blockade against Iran.
Footage released over the weekend showing U.S. troops conducting a verification boarding
of a vessel in the Arabian Sea.
As of Monday, CENTCOM says they have redirected 17 commercial vessels, disabled two, and boarded
two to ensure compliance with the blockade against Iranian ports.
This comes as the U.S. paused a campaign of airstrikes against Iran over the weekend,
and President Trump on Monday saying the U.S. was holding talks with Iran, but threatening
military action if diplomacy fails.

And the Trump administration is asking the Supreme Court to allow an executive order
which limits mail-in voting to move forward.
The emergency appeal comes after a lower court upheld a decision blocking the president's
Trump's March executive order directed the Department of Homeland Security to compile
a list of U.S. citizens eligible to vote in each state.
The order also directed the U.S. Postal Service to deliver ballots only to voters on each
state's approved mail-in ballot list.
Democratic officials in 23 states and the District of Columbia then sued.
The Justice Department is asking the Supreme Court to allow the proposed changes to go
forward while that lawsuit plays out.

Welcome back to Entity Evening News, I'm Kerry Dunst.
The Chinese regime as well as private Chinese entities are attempting to sway U.S. policies
and our democratic processes through lobbying with tens of millions of dollars recently
disclosed by the DOJ.
But what is the true scope and the scale of the Chinese Communist Party's efforts to interfere
here in American society?
Joining us now for analysis is Casey Fleming.
He's the chairman CEO of Black Ops Partners Corp.
He's also a national security advisor specializing in unrestricted warfare,
as well as the author of The Red Tsunami, The Silent Storm, Killing Your Freedom.
Casey, thanks for joining this evening.
The DOJ revealed about $20 million spent by the Chinese regime to influence the U.S.
and another $80 million from Chinese and Hong Kong entities.
For these disclosed funds, what do they hope to achieve out of that investment?
First of all, it's a tip of the iceberg of what's been going on.
It started many, many years ago.
Each year it gets worse.
The corruption inside of our government, the complacency is getting much worse as well.
What they're trying to do is influence voting, influence laws, influence policies,
and they're doing an extremely effective job of it.
It's called foreign influence, and the American people,
every American needs to write their congressman and say,
ban every dollar, every in-kind or in-like contribution,
because foreign influence, just those two words ought to ring bells with every American.
It means your freedom is leaving you.
In other words, why are we allowing any foreign influence
to influence our laws and our government?
That flies straight into the face of our Constitution,
where the Constitution gives the people the power.
Casey, you're mentioning this foreign influence.
That's also the transparent part.
You also prelated that by saying it was the tip of the iceberg.
What is the iceberg?
What is the part that they're not disclosing
that's attempting to infiltrate into American society?
Foreign influence starts with cash, right?
Whoever can be bribed to be able to give them what their objectives are,
whether it's laws, running for office,
agreeing to policies, those kind of things.
There throughout a lot of our schools and school systems,
state, local governments,
the level of infiltration and subversion
inside of America and our allies
would absolutely blow your mind
if you really got a handle around it.
But it's also foreign influence is anything,
which, for example, is allowing property,
real estate, farmland to be sold,
water companies, water utilities to be sold
to the Chinese Communist Party.
Now, I can't buy that stuff in China.
Why do we allow that here?
So it's that level of concern.
Where we're at right now is a critical watershed moment in America.
The president came out and said communism
is the biggest threat to America since our founding.
At the same time, the Senate came out
and unanimously agreed to and approved
Senate Bill 444, which called out
Xi Jinping and the Chinese Communist Party
as the most significant threat to the American way of life.
Then the House speaker came out and said,
we're in a war and we're trying to wake up
the American people.
And then Trump told NATO about communism
and then mainstream media says,
we're not going to cover any of this stuff
that the president wants to tell us about.
So that is a watershed moment.
Your federal government, all sectors of your federal government
has broken the glass and pulled the alarm.
And the House speaker basically saying,
you know, we're trying to wake up America.
He's basically telling you, we don't have it handled.
We're trying to wake the rest of you guys and gals up.
Yeah, the way that you explain that,
and these are all just almost like dominoes
that have fallen in D.C. as of late.
We at NTD, of course, have seen these efforts
by the CCP up close.
Our award winning film, Unbroken,
the untold story of Shen Yun,
which was just viewed at the Capitol last week.
It uncovers the Chinese regime's efforts
to influence U.S. media, government
and even judicial institutions
to spread its transnational repression here in America.
Does this level of brazen attacks on U.S. entities surprise you?
It doesn't surprise us.
We've been doing this for many years.
In fact, we do security for Shen Yun
and I want the audience to understand
Shen Yun is anti-CCP
and it's China before communism.
So if you ever get a chance to see Shen Yun,
make sure you go see those guys and gals.
They're being persecuted on U.S. sovereign soil
and that should concern every American.
These people deserve the freedom that we all deserve
but they're being persecuted by our enemy,
the Chinese Communist Party.
Dozens of bomb threats to throw off their performances,
bus tires being slashed,
being cordoned off arriving back at O'Hare Airport
by a Chinese national CB,
Customs Border Patrol agent.
I mean, the list goes on and on.
So this persecution should shock every American,
the persecution of the Falun Gong and Shen Yun
on U.S. soil because that's the same thing
as persecuting direct American citizens
Well, Casey Flemings,
thank you so much for sharing your expertise with us
this evening. We appreciate it.
Thanks for having me.

Next, Venezuela is withdrawing
from the International Criminal Court or the ICC.
Meanwhile, the ICC has now removed its chief prosecutor
over sexual misconduct allegations.
And Denise Fionagy reports from the State Department.
In an ex post on Friday,
Venezuela's foreign minister announced what he called
the country's quote definitive withdrawal
from the International Criminal Court or ICC.
He's citing here geographical bias
against both African and Latin American countries,
as well as a more general bias
against the global South in general.
The U.S. State Department applauds the decision
and says the ICC has been quote,
investigating Nicolas Maduro since 2018 with no result.
The ICC has instead wasted its resources
on investigating and charging persons
from countries that have competent,
independent judicial systems
and which never submitted to the jurisdiction of the court.
This is blatant overreach, political bias,
and selective enforcement.
In a similar announcement,
Chad's foreign ministry has also published a statement Monday
saying that they too will withdraw from the ICC
for similar reasons.
They also say that African judicial mechanisms
are capable of carrying out legal
and judicial responsibilities independently.
Meanwhile, the ICC voted on Friday
to remove chief prosecutor Kareem Khan
for allegations of sexual misconduct,
all of which are allegations that he has denied.
This is the first time the ICC has ever removed
a sitting chief prosecutor.
The Trump administration
had already imposed sanctions on Khan since 2025
over warrants the ICC issued for Israeli officials.
All of this comes on the heels of Secretary of State
Marco Rubio's statement earlier this month
announcing a campaign to quote,
dismantle the threat of the ICC against American sovereignty.
The ICC and its friends are waging a war against our country,
not with bullets or missiles,
The United States is not a member of the ICC,
which was originally established
to prosecute war crimes and genocide.
The Trump administration now saying
that the court is overstepping its jurisdiction
and the State Department likewise
is now urging for more sanctions against the ICC
as well as for more member countries to withdraw.
Reporting from Washington, D.C., Fiona Gee, NTD News.
Thank you, Fiona, for that.
Next, the Senate is facing a packed schedule
before their August recess.
President Trump wants action
on a third Republican reconciliation bill.
Two committees are preparing high-profile proceedings
and Washington's set to honor the late Senator Lindsey Graham.
NTD's Chris Bobb reports.
Budget resolution that unlocks our third reconciliation bill,
which of course is Republicans' best shot
to get as much of the Save America Act into law as possible,
in addition to funding our national defense and our farmers.
House Speaker Mike Johnson is urging the Senate to act
after the House approved the blueprint
for Republicans' third reconciliation package.
The plan includes defense and agricultural funding
along with $10 billion to incentivize states
to adopt provisions of the Save America Act.
President Trump posted on Truth Social Friday,
quote,
This will be one of the most consequential bills
in American history,
strengthening our powerful military,
providing aid for our farmers,
and most importantly,
as much of the Save America Act as possible.
Trump added, quote,
I'm asking that the Senate adopt a budget resolution
which can pass with a simple majority
before leaving for the August recess.
The Senate Judiciary Committee is also scheduled
to vote Thursday on advancing the nomination
of Todd Blanche for Attorney General.
The committee held the nomination over last week
under its rules.
One day earlier, Dr. Anthony Fauci
will return to Capitol Hill under subpoena.
Senator Rand Paul posted an interview clip
from the First TV on X July 22nd,
previewing his committee's questioning.
He will be asked again about funding,
gain-of-function research,
which I believe he lied about the first time.
But he also this time will be asked
about deleting and destroying records
and compelling or seeking others
to delete and destroy records.
Paul released more than 1,100 pages
of Fauci's diaries ahead of the hearing.
One entry shows Fauci received a private CIA briefing
concerning the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
Fauci wrote that officials had information from a source
that, quote,
unknown experiments were conducted by the military in Wuhan.
But Fauci described the CIA briefers as, quote,
naive and uninformed, adding, quote,
there is something very fishy about all of this.
Weeks later, Fauci wrote that the FBI had, quote,
no idea who they were talking about
when it concluded that COVID-19
originated from a laboratory leak.
Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas posted on ExMonday, quote,
Fauci's diary confirms what we have long known.
Tony Fauci is a lying fraud who covered up for China.
Fauci is scheduled to testify Wednesday
before Paul's Senate Homeland Security
and Governmental Affairs Committee.
Meanwhile, Senator Mitch McConnell remains in rehabilitation
after suffering a fall and a mild case of pneumonia.
The Kentucky Republican has not been medically cleared
to return to work
and has missed over three dozen Senate votes since June 14th.
Washington will honor the late Senator Lindsey Graham Tuesday
with a capital ceremony and a 2 p.m. funeral
at Washington National Cathedral.
President Trump will deliver a tribute.
Graham's remains will travel to South Carolina
for a Wednesday procession, funeral, and private burial.
The Senate's August recess begins August 7th.
Senators are not scheduled to return to Washington
until September 14th.

Love.
You're mine.
Welcome back to NTD Evening News.
I'm Cary Dunst.
Three people were killed,
and four others injured after a shooting
at Seattle's annual Bite of Seattle Food Festival
on Sunday evening.
Investigators say two suspects exchanged gunfire,
striking bystanders in the crowd.
A 15-year-old has been detained,
but police say no formal arrests have been made.
NTD's Christina Corona has the details.
Oh, my God.
Gunfire erupted Sunday evening
during Seattle's annual Bite of Seattle Food Festival
near the Space Needle.
Police say officers who were already assigned to the event
responded immediately.
Officials provided new details Monday.
The Seattle Police Department detained a 15-year-old juvenile
in connection with the shooting.
The teen was booked into the Judge Patricia H. Clark
Children and Family Justice Center
for investigation for firearms violations
and first-degree assault.
We believe this teenager opened fire in the crowd,
but details are still under investigation.
Authorities say they believe the shooting began
after two people exchanged gunfire
in the middle of the crowded festival.
There is a second shooter.
We're trying to identify who that person is.
Our officers need your help.
If someone saw something or perhaps if someone has some video,
we need to identify that person.
We do believe that there was an exchange of gunfire.
We have one person in custody.
Three people, a 19-year-old man, a 44-year-old man,
and a 56-year-old woman were killed.
Four others, including a 2-year-old boy,
were taken to nearby hospitals.
Hospital officials said the surviving victims
were in satisfactory condition.
Most have since been discharged
while the toddler remains hospitalized.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene
as thousands of people scrambled for safety.
I'm one of the vendors inside,
and we suddenly heard some firecrackers.
What I thought were firecrackers,
and people started yelling,
shooter, shooter, and there was like a stampede of people
just running, knocking down a lot of products
from the vendors, etc.
Even us, we were sitting in an open area
where there was a concert happening on stage,
and we were eating just behind one of the food vendors,
their area.
And I heard the gunshots.
There were about six or seven multiple gunshots.
Everybody got down.
There were people hiding behind the food vendors' tents
and people hiding behind trees,
leaving their items behind.
Police say two firearms were recovered at the scene.
Investigators say they do not believe
there is an ongoing threat to the public
despite the search for the second suspect.
Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson says investigators
are reviewing surveillance footage from Seattle Center.
The 15-year-old is expected to make a first court appearance
Monday afternoon.

Wildfires continue ravaging across Europe.
They've burned close to 300,000 acres of forested land,
and over a quarter million people
were forced to evacuate their homes.
Officials say the situation could become even worse.
NTD's international correspondent
Arjen Pasdar has more.
Dramatic footage on Monday showing a wildfire in Spain
spreading onto a highway.
Another video shows the aftermath of the disaster
in a small town in the center of the country,
west of Madrid.
You'll see burned cars, traffic signs, blackened fields,
destroyed vegetation, and even wildlife killed by the flames.
The latest fire has devastated over 120,000 acres,
making it the largest wildfire in Spain's recent history.
Over 100,000 people had to be evacuated.
In total, over 370,000 acres burned down
due to various fires in Spain so far this year.
Thirteen people have sadly lost their lives due to wildfires.
And according to estimates,
the death toll from heat in Spain
has risen to more than 3,800 people.
Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez says the government
will declare a civil protection emergency
for the affected provinces on Tuesday,
unlocking additional recovery funding.
Meanwhile, in neighboring France,
burned trees are seen in the southwestern part of the country
as another wildfire is causing chaos.
France already had to evacuate almost a quarter million people
due to the threat posed by the fire.
Almost 100,000 acres burned down so far.
Combined with the fire in Spain,
the size equivalent to over 150,000 football fields
burned down in the two fires.
This fire has a life of its own.
It benefits both from the current climate
and from the nature of these forests,
giving it completely erratic behavior.
It's autonomous, self-sustaining, and spreads in all directions.
So it's a fire that is difficult to control,
extremely difficult to control.
French workers are now creating fire breaks along a highway
in a race to curb the fire.
First responders from different countries
are also helping to contain the flames.
This video shows pilots from Croatia flying through dense smoke
as wildfires rage on the ground below.
And firefighters from Romania are also joining their French colleagues,
doing what they can to save as much land as possible.
The fire in France is threatening the nearby city of Bordeaux,
a major tourist hotspot.
Yes, we're scared.
We're scared that this gets into the city
because we tell ourselves, at least we have a home.
So it's true that it's very touching.
Officials say the situation could become even worse
as another heat wave is approaching,
with temperatures expected to reach almost 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Amazon Leo plans to offer voice and data connectivity
to mobile devices from space.
It's seeking approval from the FCC
for its constellation of over 5,000 communication satellites.
Entities, David Lam has more on that.
Amazon's satellite subsidiary, Amazon Leo,
is asking the FCC to approve its 5,000 satellite plan.
Amazon Leo says these low-orbit satellites
would provide voice, data, messaging and emergency services
directly to mobile devices,
joining a growing race among satellite operators
to beam cell services directly to smartphones.
Amazon Leo, formerly called Project Kuiper,
was established in 2019
to provide a low-Earth orbit satellite system.
This is a rare opportunity.
The impact that Project Kuiper has on the lives of people
is really unprecedented at the scale.
Amazon Leo says the new system
is a core part of our long-term vision for Amazon Leo,
bringing high-speed connectivity
to more people in more places around the world.
It plans to partner with satellite company Global Star
and begin deployment in 2028.
We have to build everything really kind of from the ground up.
The FCC did not immediately comment on the proposal.
This mobile network would expand Amazon's satellite ambitions
and intensify competition in the direct-to-device market with SpaceX.
Amazon Leo has announced partnerships with Vodafone,
DirecTV, Herotel, and Australia's National Broadband Network.
There's also an agreement with Apple
to power satellite services
for supported iPhone and Apple Watch models.

And now for your sports news, we're joined by NTD's Dave Martin.
Dave, we're kicking off the sports news tonight on a bit of a somber note.
It looks like Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bien-Aimé,
his wife was shot in their family home last night in Virginia.
What happened?
Yeah, very sad story there.
57-year-old Mia Bien-Aimé, that's Eric Bien-Aimé's wife,
was hospitalized and is in stable condition today
after being shot at the couple's home in Virginia last night.
Police say she's treated for multiple gunshot wounds.
Now meanwhile, the couple's son, 27-year-old Elijah Zion Bien-Aimé,
has been arrested and charged in her shooting.
He's being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.
Sheriff's Office said the investigation is still ongoing.
Now Eric Bien-Aimé has spent a number of years as an assistant coach in the NFL,
10 overall with the Kansas City Chiefs, that was from 2013 to 2022.
He left for the same job then with the Washington Commanders in 2023,
then the UCLA Bruins in 2024.
Last year he was back in the NFL as an assistant for the Chicago Bears.
The Chiefs then rehired him this offseason as their offensive coordinator.
He was actually at training camp yesterday.
The training camp is near Kansas City.
He was not, though, present today.
Now Bien-Aimé was a running back in the NFL for a number of years
after starring at Colorado in college, so very sad story.
Yeah, our best goes to the whole Bien-Aimé family.
Shifting gears a bit, let's go to college football.
Stanford has some unusual news.
What's going on there with the football program?
Yeah, Stanford is becoming the first college football team to form a union.
They're joining the College Football Players Association.
They made the announcement today saying that they were the first team to unionize.
The executive director of the College Football Players Association
said the goal is for other ACC teams to join.
Now Stanford is in the ACC.
They want other members then to join in
so they can bargain with the conference over working conditions.
Now Stanford players elected offensive linemen
Fisher Anderson and linebacker Ernest Cooper as their player representatives.
Now meanwhile, of course, the NCAA has been working with the federal government
on that bipartisan Protect College Sports Act.
Now this bill, though, would not prevent players from becoming employees,
but it would impose federal spending caps
and restrict certain compensation to players there.
This is certainly a story we will continue to watch
to try to see where this goes here.
A lot of money flowing.
They were never really just students,
but with the NIL and all the official money being paid to them,
it just seems kind of like the Wild West.
So somewhat surprising, but it seems like an evolution, right?
The Wild West is pretty much how everyone talks about it.
I mean, there's not much rules regarding the NIL.
And even with getting paid by the colleges now,
there doesn't seem to be much that's been enforced.
That seems to be why they want this bill to be passed
so that they can actually have something in writing that they can stand by.
But yeah, college sports is pretty much the Wild, Wild West, Kerry.
All right, well, market dynamics rule, free markets rule in all aspects.
Applying that to college sports as well.
Let's move on to pure professional sports
where everything is very clear and the contracts are set.
Baseball news. We have 11 games on tonight.
That's a lot of action tonight.
One in Miami as the Marlins look to snap a long-awaited losing streak.
What's happening there?
Yeah, the Marlins have lost a franchise record 12 straight games
heading into today's game against the Phillies.
Now yesterday, Marlins had a 3-1 lead against the San Diego Padres
before giving up four runs in that eighth inning to lose their 12th in a row.
Overall, the team has not won since July 9.
It's basically been a problem scoring runs.
They've averaged just two and a half runs per game during this 12-game skid.
Meanwhile, two teams have passed them in the division.
That's the Nationals and the Phillies who they play tonight.
So that game just started just a few minutes ago.
Zach Wheeler starts for the Phillies on the mound opposite the Marlins.
Tyler Phillips.
So yeah, that's what's going on in baseball.
Pretty much baseball is the only sporting event that's consistently going on right now.
Obviously, NFL training camps start pretty soon here.
So that's going to be another six weeks probably before that will start.
So basically, it's baseball right now.
Well, with 22 teams in action tonight, hopefully something for everybody out there
and something for us to talk about tomorrow probably.
I'm sure there will be.
Unless you're still in jury duty.
I'm still in jury duty.
Breaking my heart, Dave.
Thanks for joining, Dave. Appreciate it.
Thank you, Cary.
