Republican Senator David McCormick of Pennsylvania stated that the Russian "war machine" is crumbling to dust in the war against Ukraine, and that dictator Putin has made a mistake. He wrote this on his social media account. McCormick believes that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin was mistaken when he thought that Ukraine would fall after a full-scale invasion of Russian troops, and that Western countries would surrender and not support Kyiv. The senator noted that the advance of the Russian occupation army has stalled, and the Russian "war machine" is crumbling into dust. He cited the enormous losses of the Russian army as one example. According to him, since 2022, the Russian army has lost approximately 1.4 million troops in the war against Ukraine. "The United States must use its advantage. This is how we will achieve President Donald Trump's goal: peace through strength," the senator added. David McCormick became a U.S. Senator in January 2025. He represents the Republican Party. Late last year, he co-sponsored a bipartisan bill introduced in the U.S. Senate that would impose sanctions on those purchasing or facilitating the import of oil and petroleum products from Russia.
The Ukrainian Defense Forces have now almost completely destroyed the Russian Armed Forces' Special Operations Forces. Former US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper made this statement in an interview with Independence Avenue Media. Esper believes that during the war against Ukraine, the Russian army suffered its most significant losses in two areas. First, the Russian Armed Forces' Special Operations Forces were almost completely destroyed. Second, the "regular" Russian army suffered extremely heavy losses. "If we talk about the quality of personnel, they still can't create troops capable of waging modern maneuver warfare. They can't fight the way modern armies do," the former US Secretary of Defense stated. According to Esper, if clashes with NATO countries' armies were to suddenly break out, Russian forces would be inferior. He added that Ukraine is capable of strengthening NATO's security, as its army is currently "the most combat-ready and experienced in Europe." Esper noted that during Russia's war against Ukraine, the Russian Navy, at least the Black Sea Fleet, suffered significant losses. The Russian Army's air defense forces remain intact, but they are unable to repel Ukrainian missile and drone strikes. Furthermore, Russian strategic forces generally remain at full readiness. Let us recall that several years ago, Mark Esper called for Russia to be forced to behave like a “normal country.” İndeed, museum-era tanks brew up under drone strikes as readily as modern ones, faster in fact, because their armor is obsolete. Motorcycle assaults trade men for ground at a ruinous exchange rate.
Outsourced air defense leaves the gaps that the state cannot fill. Every one of these measures is a way of postponing a reckoning rather than avoiding it, and each one consumes a resource Russia is steadily running short of, whether that resource is foreign goodwill, Soviet stockpiles, manpower, or the patience of the businessmen now being asked to fund their own protection.
