Kids have some competition when it comes to Halloween costumes,
four-legged trick-or-treaters
studying their stuff and raising money along the way.
Irene Snyder has the story.
Spooky costumes to wagging tails.
Halloween went to the dogs this morning.
The Arizona Animal Welfare League hosting
its annual walk to save animals.
And for the first time ever, it fell on Halloween.
We're leaning into the Halloween theme, so we have trick-or-treating,
we have pets dressed in costumes, our shirts are Halloween themed.
And while the rain forced organizers to make some adjustments,
it didn't stop the Halloween fun.
Families and their furry friends coming together for a 2K or 5K walk.
Along with vendors, activities, and plenty of costumes.
I love dressing up. I think it's fun.
It's Halloween, so why not?
I love cosplaying and all that kind of stuff.
So I think it's a fun little costume.
I actually am kind of dressed like my dog.
But behind all the fun is an important cause.
This is the shelter's biggest fundraiser of the year.
Helping support animals in need across Arizona.
Donations that come through at events like
this really support our life-saving programs,
help us support animals like Kiyoko here,
and all our community programs like our community vet clinic.
And Kiyoko is just one of the animals hoping to find a forever home.
She's available for adoption with a shelter saying she could
be a good fit for a family with elementary age kids or older.
It's a Halloween celebration that's about more than just treats.
It's about giving animals a second chance.
It's really fun to see a bunch
of animal-loving supporters come together
and really celebrate AWL's work and just see all our fun.
We have a lot of alumni who come to this event.
