Village Halloween Parade takes over 6th Avenue

It is an especially busy weekend here in the city, and Fox 5 and Fox Local has got you covered. It all starts with tonight's Halloween parade in the village where clever costumes are always taken to the next level, and that is where Fox 5's Nikki Hauser is live for us. Scary where you are, Nikki? Yeah, we are having so much fun out here. There's intricate costumes. There's floats being put together. There's a lot of excitement behind the scenes. In fact, I want to show you the behind the scenes. You can see all of these costumes. Oh, there's the cast of Scooby-Doo right there. A lot of other interesting people just making sure they are dressed to the nines. This is looked forward to every single fall. Tonight marking the 53rd year of this event. And the parade begins... At 7 o'clock officially tonight, it runs along 6th Avenue from Canal Street to 15th Street. Tens of thousands take part to perform, to volunteer, or to just watch all the madness. The longtime director Gene Fleming tells me the magic of the parade lies in the people that make it possible. What keeps you coming back? What is so special about this event? It's the people. It's New York City. It's getting to see the mind of New York City explode in creativity with everyone doing what they wanna do and having fun with it. They say this is a go every year rain or shine. Thankfully, it's such a perfect fall day, so nothing to worry about there. And you will be able to see much more of the sights and sounds. We'll bring you that at 8 o'clock on our newsroom live streaming on Fox Local. Live for now in Hudson Square, I'm Nikki Hauser, Fox 5 News.
