Yeah, these storms, they really have the washes flowing.
This is video from Stacy earlier today
in the McDowell Mountain Ranch neighborhood.
Water just rushing past these homes down the hillside.
And we have another video.
This one is from Mitch Moraney of the Desert Ridge Wash up there.
This is in Scottsdale, Phoenix, and Tempe technical crews,
working to conduct multiple swift.
Water rescues tonight out there.
That also includes Hayden Road and McCormick Parkway.
And that is where Nicole Christine
is live tonight with rescues out there.
Hey, Nicole.
Hey Steve, it's been a very busy night as you just mentioned.
Scottsdale Fire Department and
their rescue crews responding to five different water rescues,
including multiple cars here at
this scene. This is right in the McCormick Ranch Golf Club area,
so we're right by the golf course
and of course a residential area,
and you can see these vehicles made the decision to drive into
this water, getting stuck,
and this is exactly what you don't want to have happen to you when
When this kind of weather hits.
You can hear maybe some of the rushing water.
The rain has ended probably over an hour ago now,
but that doesn't mean that the flooding
is over and it's continuing to rush through this wash.
We spoke with Captain Dave Folio from Scottsdale Fire,
and he told us that there had been,
as I mentioned, nearly half a dozen water rescues tonight,
and that you really just
need to be careful.
If you cannot see the pavement
when you're heading into areas that look like they could
It could be slightly flooded.
Turn around. Do not go toward that direction.
Don't even head out onto the roadways if you
don't have to, especially in areas like this,
where we know that there is the Indian Bend
Wash, and this is an area that does easily get hit with flash flooding.
Multiple vehicles.
Luckily, everyone is going to be okay,
but we did ask Scottsdale Fire Department Captain
Dave Folio during an interview just
a little bit ago about what this scene was like, and
he had some interesting details to share
with us. Here's what he had to say.
We made a decision to go out with a V-pattern with our teams,
put a vest on that person,
helmet, and walk them out.
And as we were getting the second person out of that vehicle,
we had another vehicle go around a fire truck
that was blocking the other side
and drive into the wash.
So it requires more resources, takes a lot of resources,
tactical rescue crews, because we got
to put people upstream, downstream, river right,
river left, and we don't want to lose one
of our rescuers into these waters.
And Captain Folio did add that if you do get stuck in water like this,
stay with your vehicle,
try to stay inside. If it starts to come into the vehicle,
get onto the top of the vehicle and make
sure that you've called 911 as soon as possible
so that they can get out to you because time is
of the essence. We use the phrase, turn around,
don't drown all of the time, but it really does
apply in these situations.
Just the best advice is that, just that, turn around, don't drown and
And don't get yourself into this situation.
Live in Scottsdale tonight, Nicole Christine, Fox 10 News.
