Toronto police identify suspect in Bridle Path home invasion
Oct 31, 2026
We have identified one of the suspects involved in this home invasion
shooting days after a violent home invasion near Hyde Park Circle
and Post Road in the Brattle Path neighborhood.
Police say they have identified one
of the three suspects they believe to be behind the incident.
23-year-old Dajon Richards of Toronto is being sought by police
after he walked into a Toronto hospital on Thursday.
We believe that he was accidentally shot by one
of the other suspects involved in this home invasion.
Police are notified whenever someone
seeks hospital care for a gunshot wound.
While they did interact with the suspect,
he was not taken into custody.
When someone walks into a hospital, there's a lot of things that need
to happen in the period of time from when we become aware of them
to us forming the reasonable grounds that we need to make an arrest
and link that person to the crime of this home invasion.
Police believe that Richards, along
with two other unidentified suspects, all allegedly armed with handguns
and a hammer, forced their way inside the home of David Morton,
the CEO of real estate services company The Mack Group.
At the time, Morton, his wife,
and two adult daughters were all home asleep.
Three were shot and all four hit with a hammer,
according to a statement released by Morton Friday.
He went on to say it is difficult to put into words
the trauma of experiencing something so horrific
in the one place where everyone should feel safest, their own home.
Police say some of the victims have been released
while others remain in hospital,
calling their injuries life-altering, but they are expected to survive.
At this point police do not believe
the incident to be targeted in any way.
As the search continues for all three suspects
who are believed to be around 20 years old,
police have one message for Richards.
Speaking directly to you Mr. Richards, we know who you are
and we're actively looking for you. Your world just got smaller.
I strongly urge you to get a lawyer,
contact a lawyer, and turn yourself in.
Police are reminding the public that the suspects
are considered to be armed and dangerous.
Anyone with information is asked to contact
the hold-up squad or 33 Division.
