At Kennesaw, family is trying to figure out what's next after
they woke up to a tree on top of their home. Thankfully,
everyone survived, but most of the family's belongings are ruined.
Fox's Tara Jabbour has the story.
A couple weeks ago, a family here in Kennesaw woke up
to a tree that fell directly on their
house. The tree basically split their home in half.
These photos show just how bad the damage
is to this Kennesaw home after a tree fell on top of it.
I woke up to what I can only describe as
like a real life nightmare.
Kurt Jensen and his family have lived in the home for about four
years. They always worried about some of the trees around the home,
but never thought it would end up
It ended up like this.
woke up and the tree was on top of me
and I was looking up and all I saw was like, you
know, the sky, leaves, insulation floating all around, branches.
It just didn't seem
real.
Luckily, everyone is okay,
but the damage is done and Jensen says most of the things
inside of the home are ruined.
Because there was asbestos in the house, everything is contaminated.
So I'd say about 99% of our stuff, you know, is a loss.
And we're going to try to just to save the valuables
and the stuff that can't be replaced.
You know, like family stuff.
So that's it.
Jensen says they are renting the home
and do not have renter's insurance.
So it will take a long time for them to get back on their feet.
He's thankful that everyone is okay,
but wishes that this was not their new reality.
We're just trying to take it day by day.
For me, it just doesn't seem real still.
He meant a lot to us, you know.
Because it was a place that we lived.
To have all our stuff gone sucks.
And if you would like to support the family,
we have information on how to do so at our website, fox5atlanta.com.
