At the world's busiest airport,
that is the control tower, and that is obviously a very
important place, and that's why they
are upgrading the control tower to make sure
they keep safety top of mind.
Air traffic controllers are now using a new digital tool
to keep track of flights.
This week, they began using what's known as electronic flight strips
inside of the tower, replacing the paper strips used for decades.
The FAA says the system provides
real-time updates, helps controllers respond to changing weather
and traffic, and automatically
flags conditions such as closed runways.
The goal to improve safety and make operations
more efficient. Take a listen. So it adds safety in many ways.
One is that controllers now have
more heads up time. So rather than looking down and making changes,
they'll be able to look
up at their screen, make their changes while their eyes are still out.
Looking at the aircraft,
it also creates a common platform that is used by the controllers,
the pilots, the airlines, and the airports.
So everyone's using the same information
and being able to manage the traffic on the same sheet of music.
It sounds like some good news to be upgrading this equipment
to keep people safe at the world's busiest airport.
You can see the shot right there, pictures that the FAA released.
Atlanta is now the 26th airport to make the switch. And speaking of
