A two-day meeting of world leaders in Atlanta is expected
to cause some delays in Midtown this weekend.
Road closures for the G20 foreign ministers meeting
have already brought on headaches for drivers.
Fox's Hernan Gutierrez joins us live near the meeting.
Hernan, what are you hearing from neighbors?
Yeah, well, first of all, it's being even more of a headache right now.
You might be able to hear behind me,
there's been motorcade after motorcade
just traveling by right here on Peachtree Street
because of those meetings.
And neighbors, well, they've been annoyed.
The Department of Transportation here
in Atlanta saying that these road closures
officially started last night.
And some neighbors tell me they didn't hear about
these closures until then,
until last night, and they still have a lot
of questions about why they're even happening.
I was watching cars be in the same spot for 30 minutes.
Midtown might see some scarier than normal traffic due
to the G20 foreign ministers meeting.
Road closures are in place for the event at the Lowe's Hotel.
Anna Bollman just moved to the neighborhood.
I walked to work very early
and there were a lot more cops and guns and things.
I was just like, I don't know what's going on.
The U.S. State Department expects
diplomats from the world's top economies,
including Russia and China,
will meet about economic cooperation and security challenges.
It comes as the Georgia-Florida game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium
will also bring crowds to downtown Atlanta.
Keelan Broussard fears it could cause a traffic nightmare.
I just noticed that there's a lot of blocked off areas on this side.
And I'm assuming there's going to be more traffic eventually.
And yeah, I had no idea that any of this was happening.
Juniper Street between 13th
and 11th streets will be closed for security.
Police will also use K9 officers and drones.
There's supposed to be a detour for southbound traffic on Peachtree Street.
I'm assuming with the holidays that might cause even more traffic,
so that's a little inconvenient.
Increased traffic already causing some
to change their plans this Halloween weekend.
I'm already not used to driving in the city,
and so I've been trying to walk everywhere.
I walk to work, I just walk to get my lunch.
I really am trying to not use my car just
because of how bad the traffic was.
Now, these foreign diplomats,
they'll continue meeting throughout the day tomorrow.
According to ADOT,
all of those road closures will be back open Sunday at noon.
In Midtown, Hernan Gutierrez, Fox 5 News.
I mean, a perfect example behind you, Hernan, of the motorcades
going through as if Atlanta didn't have traffic enough.
That's right.
All right, thanks so much.
