After interventions reportedly by both Melania Trump and the Pope,
people in the besieged
Ukrainian city of Oleshky are now being evacuated
and heading towards Ukrainian-controlled areas
of the country.
The major ceasefire has now entered its fourth day.
Officials from both Ukraine
and Russia have worked together on this rare humanitarian
mission.
A convoy of 25 buses
and several ambulances arrived in the war-torn city earlier on Friday,
bringing food and medicine and helping residents who wish to leave.
Local authorities say 2,000 people remain in Oleshky.
The ceasefire in Ukraine's southern Kherson region
is expected to remain in place until
Sunday evening. Despite the local ceasefire,
fighting has continued in other areas on Friday.
Russia's defense ministry claimed to have intercepted more than
a thousand Ukrainian drones overnight,
while Ukraine reported Russian strikes involving missiles and drones.
