And now it's time to check in with our Joyce Lupiani
for the stories that are trending right now
on Fox 5 Atlanta dot com and the Fox local app.
Joyce, obviously, we have a lot of election stories up there right now,
but you're talking about some
of the other stories that are trending, right?
Yes, I am. Our top trending story right now
is about how much money you need to make
just to get by in Metro Atlanta.
According to new data, a single adult without children
needs to earn between $24
and $27 an hour just to cover basic expenses. Now,
Gwinnett and Cobb counties are the most expensive,
according to this study,
And Clayton County has like the lowest cost.
And if you have kids, that number goes way up.
For example, in Fulton County,
a single parent with one child needs to make nearly $42 an hour.
And, you know, Tyler, keep in mind,
these numbers don't include like saving for retirement or for
for like unexpected expenses and that's obviously.
A lot more than Georgia's minimum wage of $7.25.
So this story is definitely getting a lot of interest
and people are clicking on it.
And if people would like to go take a look at it, they can see
a lot more numbers for the different counties here in Metro Atlanta.
Yeah, I think one of our producers showed me
this website yesterday and was telling me how
you could like look it up and break it down.
I mean, those numbers that we were just looking at
are wild. I mean, the fact that Gwinnett County
is actually higher than Fulton and DeKalb, which
is right in the heart of the city, is interesting to me.
And the fact that it's way above minimum
wage, which means people in our community here
who could be making minimum wage, and I'm sure
there's a lot of people, unfortunately,
who are making just minimum wage and making it hard to
Yeah. Yeah. I mean, we are talking about,
you know, high prices all the time.
And we also do like a lot of stories on like the housing,
like people just can't afford to like rent.
much less buy a house.
So we do a lot of stories and the city of Atlanta has done quite a bit.
There's like different programs.
I know there's programs in other counties too, but you know,
just paying for housing
and food can be a definite problem here in Georgia.
Well, and I can see why a lot of people are clicking
on that just because they're interested
I'm interested to see, hey, are they maybe...
Living above or below their means based off that calculator.
And so I could see why a lot of people are interested in the story.
And I actually shocked by the numbers
because I was looking at it yesterday.
And the fact that Fulton is twenty six dollars an hour. I mean.
Money doesn't go a whole lot nowadays.
Mm-mm.
No, no.
But moving on to something a little bit happier,
you know, tomorrow's Halloween.
We've obviously been talking about it pretty much all day.
And there are a lot of fun things that are happening
in Metro Atlanta in North Georgia.
There are multiple haunted attractions.
We have like Netherworld, which is over in the Stone Mountain area,
and the Paranoia Haunted House, which is in Canton.
10,
If you are a dog owner,
you might want to check out the Halloween Parade
that's happening on the Atlanta Beltline.
10,
And over on High Street, they're going to be doing like live music
and face painting and trick-or-treating and a costume contest.
10,
Very family friendly.
So if you've got kids and everything, you might want to check that out.
10.
Awesome.
So just, you know, throughout Metro Atlanta and all,
you know, all the different counties,
you know, a lot of the local schools
and churches are hosting trunk or treats.
We don't necessarily have those listed on the website
because there's so many of them.
But a lot of the churches and the schools are doing that.
I've seen like a lot of signs around
the different neighborhoods and stuff out there
on Facebook about it.
I mean, obviously a lot of folks,
and the fact that it falls on a Saturday this year,
so many people are going to be going out about it.
I remember when I was younger,
obviously several times ago when it fell on a Saturday.
It was so much fun being out there because most parents let
their kids stay out later and have a good time.
And I think I was probably, what, maybe 10, 12 years old.
So I was able to actually stay up
and enjoy it and go trick-or-treating.
Thank you for your reading.
Well, I have to ask a question.
So what was like your favorite Halloween costume when you were a kid?
What did you dress up as?
I'm trying to think what I would have dressed up as.
I, the only one that came to come to my
mind is like a skeleton. That's
the only one I can really remember. Maybe the Grim Reaper at
one point, but that was like when I was super young.
I don't really actually, I haven't probably
dressed up in, what am I? I'm in my thirties.
So I haven't probably dressed up in.
No, you don't go to like any Halloween parties
and dress up for Halloween parties now.
You know, there's a lot of adults that are really into it.
You know, adults spend a lot of money on costumes for themselves.
You don't do any of that.
So, I mean, yeah, the National Retail Federation
said people spent about $13 billion this year
on decor and costumes and candy and things like that.
So a huge, big, big, big business.
But no, actually, no, every single year I always seem
to end up working and don't end
up doing anything.
I haven't been to, I'm not a fan of haunted houses.
I mean, I like them, but I don't like getting scared.
And I know that in that situation,
if you go to like Netherworld, I'm going to just
Not having a fun time going through as I get scared that place
is definitely scary. So I totally understand that. And you're right.
We work a lot. What are you dressing up as? Um, oh my gosh, up as last.
Nothing. I actually haven't done it in a couple of years,
but I used to do it all the time. It's easy as a woman
that you can put a witch's hat on. It's I'm a witch, right?
That's what my mom used to do.
Dude, we're not going there.
We're not going to talk about that.
Quickly, before we run out of time,
can you talk about the weekly segment you do every year?
Weekly story you do every year.
So we do have our normal things to do list.
Although if you're looking at it right now,
you'll see there's Halloween events on it too.
But if you keep on scrolling,
we've got the usual information about live music and comedy.
Adam Carolla is going to be at the Helium Comedy Club.
There's going to be like a Van Halen tribute out
in Woodstock at Mad Life.
Also, a couple other things.
The Native American Festival and Powwow
is happening at Stone Mountain Park.
So we do have, you know,
our regular listings that have information about all.
All that sort of thing and theater and, you know,
all the, oh, it's going to be a big sports weekend.
Of course, we have information about that, too.
So all those lists, you can find them pretty easy.
They're linked on the home page of our website.
And one of the big things happening this weekend
at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the Florida-Georgia game.
I will be there tomorrow.
And I'm not telling you who I'm rooting for.
Okay. Sorry. I am. I grew up in Florida.
Joyce Lupiani, thanks so much for letting us know the stories
that are trending right now on Fox5Atlanta.com and the Fox Local.
