Welcome back, everyone.
Well, people around the world will celebrate Día
de los Muertos on Sunday and on Monday,
and the team behind the local restaurant group is no exception.
CT Cantina and Taqueria has several locations
and sister concepts around Metro Atlanta,
and all of the restaurants are decorated
with vibrant altars to mark the special holiday.
So Good Day's Paul Millican is live at CT Cantina
and Taqueria in Dunwoody this morning.
It's set to be a delicious weekend out there.
Hey, Paul.
It is indeed. Have you been here yet, by the way, up here in Dunwoody?
I still haven't. And it's in my backyard.
I'm all across the street.
It's so good. Yeah, you have to come over here.
We come for dinner quite a bit. They know me around here.
I love this place, especially this time of year
with decorations like this. Look at this beautiful altar.
So I think you already know what this is referring to. This is here,
of course, because of Dia de los Muertos, which is Sunday and Monday.
So first of all, Celeste, it's wonderful to see you. How are you?
I'm good. Thank you for having me here.
Good. And let's talk a little bit about Dia de los Muertos
in case people watching aren't as familiar with the holiday
and what it's celebrating and what it's commemorating.
What is Día de los Muertos?
So a lot of people confuse Día de los Muertos with Halloween,
but it has really nothing to do with that.
Okay.
Día de los Muertos is a Mexican tradition,
but also in other Latin countries where we remember
our past loved ones.
So what we do is we set up a beautiful altar normally,
is at the cemeteries or at your home,
but we set up, um, you know, some things that
symbolize our loved ones.
Yes.
So the, um, marigolds or cempasúchil,
they symbolize, um, the fragrance symbolizes,
uh, the way or the path towards, uh, coming back.
Oh, interesting.
I never, I never knew that.
That's very cool.
And then the candles are the light that guides them.
Back to our homes.
Oh, that's so beautiful.
And then, of course, you put pictures of your loved ones.
And right in the center there, who is that picture of?
That's my grandfather.
I love that.
That's very cool.
And then something fun that you would do, too,
is you would leave items that they loved in life, right?
Yes.
So their favorite foods, their favorite drinks.
We put grains just because, you know, it symbolizes the fruits of life.
And then something interesting is papel picado, which is up here.
Okay.
Basically symbolizing the fragility of life and how we have
to appreciate, you know, our loved ones before they pass away.
Oh, that's really neat.
Thank you for telling us that.
Now, if people come in over the weekend
and they have a loved one they would like to remember,
they can add to the ofrenda or the altar with these back here.
Explain how that works.
Yes, that's correct.
So we would love our community to come out here and,
you know, display their loved ones.
They can bring a picture.
They can write a favorite memory.
Or maybe just, you know...
Their date of passing and their name.
Oh, that's so nice.
So we are very involved in the community,
and we love to share our traditions with everyone,
and we want everyone to come and just, you know.
Yeah.
What a nice way to include the entire community,
and for those of us who come in to eat,
to also leave a little bit of ourselves behind and our loved ones.
I love that.
All right, well, again, you leave food on the altar, and thankfully,
you've got plenty of it here at CT Cantina and Taqueria.
As I said, I come here to dinner a lot.
I know the food is all good.
You have got an incredible menu here.
We do.
I mean, we would love everyone to come out here and try our foods.
We have anything from traditional street tacos to more fine dining
and our guacamoles.
Yeah, you've got the birria tacos, which are my favorite.
They are so good.
The ceviche over there looks absolutely incredible.
Celeste, I'm going to put you on the spot.
If you're only going to order one of these items for lunch or dinner,
which one are you getting?
It has to be the tacos.
Oh, nice.
Okay, just like a good classic taco.
Our Mexican street tacos are just like the ones in Mexico.
Yeah, I mean, you are kind of famous for that around here.
Yeah, we are.
I love that.
All right, well, I'm going to tell you mine.
I think the Birria tacos are my favorite.
They are so, so good.
I didn't know you did these French fry, whatever the heck that is.
That might be my new favorite, though.
Yes, they're really good.
Yeah, I mean, it's got like salsa on it, I think, or like a sauce.
And it has the queso.
Drizzled on top.
Okay, you know what?
Look, I mean, Elise Edie, I hope this is many, many years away.
But feel free.
When you are remembering me,
you can put those right on my altar right there.
That's what I want.
The fries with all kinds of stuff on top of them.
Delicious.
It looks amazing.
Celeste, what a pleasure to be here.
And we've still got cocktails to make in the next hour, right?
That's right.
Sounds good to me.
All right.
More coming up from CT Cantina
and Taqueria in Dunwoody in Elise's Hood.
You have no excuse not for coming over here and hanging out.
It's gorgeous.
This is a beautiful restaurant.
Well, hold on.
As you can tell.
Hold on, hold on.
Because my takeaway from this is.
You saying you're there all the time
and you're telling me you've never told me
when you're there so I can come meet you.
As you take a bite full of food,
you need to explain yourself, Paul Milliken.
I would, but my mouth is full.
No, I can't explain myself because my mouth is full now.
So we'll talk about it later.
All right.
All right.
It all looks amazing.
Incredible.
Delicious.
All right.
Thank you, Paul.
