Neon Belly Coffee and Bakery is a spot off Burnett Road,
serving up bold brews, matcha, and fresh sourdough.
The shop's hosting an artisan market coming up this Sunday.
Tiara Neubom's out there live in North Austin
this morning with more on all of it.
Hey, Tiara.
Hey guys, good morning. Yeah, we've got sourdough cookies,
we've got our beverages ready, neon belly.
If somebody's not been in, Tony, what are they going
to enjoy with you guys? A lot of treats.
Well, we have a lot of good things here.
We've got a good coffee program,
we've got our baklava latte, which is our number one latte.
We sell more of those than any other drink in the store.
We've got an awesome hot tea program.
We do matchas, espresso, we sell coffee beans.
We've got all kinds of accoutrements
that people might want to buy from here.
Thank you.
You asked about our number one cookie.
Our number one cookie is a chocolate chip.
Okay, you never go wrong with that.
But we have a lot of great things.
We make everything in-house.
The staff does a wonderful job.
It's really all really good.
Neon Belly, okay, you guys are off Burnett Road,
and you wanted to open to be a place where neighbors can come.
Every single day, pretty much.
So what's this place been to you guys for the last year?
It's been really awesome.
We've been accepted really well from the neighborhood.
We've got so many friends that come by,
a lot of regulars that you've already seen,
people we see every day.
I
Folks just come in, they enjoy themselves,
come in and work, they come in and study.
So it's been really awesome.
Okay, I have to know, why a baklava latte?
You know, how did you guys come up
with this flavor and why this flavor?
Well, my family's from Greece, so my parents are both Greek,
which means I am, and so I wanted
to have just something that kind of...
It goes back to that heritage.
Yeah, it's delicious.
I see why people keep coming back for that one.
Then let's talk about the sourdough program.
We were talking earlier, you guys make sourdough approachable.
You don't have to commit to an entire loaf.
So it's kind of individual servings
for each piece of sourdough in-house.
Right, right.
We've got the blueberry cream cheese sourdough.
It's really good if you want something sweet.
We have savory.
So we've got our pepperoni, what I call our pepperoni pizza sourdough.
It comes with a side of marinara.
And then our everything bagel sourdough,
which comes with either cream cheese, butter, or fig jam.
All sound fantastic.
You guys have an artisan market happening this weekend, Sunday.
You know, you continue to do that to support the community.
But what's going to be going on and how has
that been received by the community as well?
It's been really great.
This will be our third one that we've done.
We've got a lot of wonderful vendors that come in,
and we're starting to get more,
and the neighbors really love it.
And now with the weather cooling off, it's going to be fantastic.
Okay, excited.
We're going to meet some of the vendors later on in the broadcast.
Let's talk about the beans here.
What makes them special?
What do you guys kind of focus on when roasting these?
These are roasted in Austin.
Yeah, everything's roasted in Austin.
We work with local roasters, so our primary supplier is Armadillo.
We also source beans from Flora Coffee as well as
Creature Coffee. So we work with all local suppliers.
What are some of the notes that we're
going to find in maybe the daily drip?
Oh, that's our little cue.
We've got our Agave Sunrise, which we use for our pour-over.
We've got Whoosh Whoosh for pour-over.
It's all really good, really good.
It's all really delicious.
Yeah, you were saying pour-over is your go-to.
I always have to ask coffee shop owners, what's your go-to, Bev?
Yours is the pour-over.
I'm always the drip or pour-over gal as well.
I like to taste the notes in there.
Well, thank you so much.
Anything else people need to know?
Y'all are open every day of the week?
Every day from 7 to 6.
Okay, every day 7 to 6.
Lots of hours to come in and get your cup of joe, guys.
We'll send it back to you in the studio.
Impressive spread.
It is.
Take your coffee outside this morning.
It's feeling great.
Yeah.
Thanks, Tiara.
Neon Belly Coffee and Bakery is a spot off Burnett Road,
serving up some great brews,
cold brews at that, matcha, and fresh sourdough.

Tierra Newbaum's out there this morning with a preview.
Hey, Tierra.
Hey guys, yeah, we fueled up with our coffees and our matchas,
our sourdough, and now we're outside
meeting some of the vendors that are going
to be at that market. And I love featuring these vendor
markets because we get to see the full setup on a weekday.
And Mary, this is your candle company,
so can you tell us about what you're going to have
at the market on Sunday? Absolutely. My name is
Mary. I'm with Mi Madre Candle Co. And these are our products.
We feature 100% soy wax,
Candles, we utilize wood wicks, 100% cotton wicks,
we utilize fragrance-free, excuse me,
phthalate-free and paraben-free fragrances,
so they're as clean-burning as possible.
We have seasonal candle selection,
we have some different representation of Via de los
Muertos here, and then we also have...
Some non-flame fragrances,
we have room diffusers and room and linen sprays.
As well as if you want to, you know, freshen up your car,
we have car diffusers and a few body products as well.
So, you know, it's all about body care and self-care.
So we have some nice body oils as well as some perfume roll-ons
and shower steamers.
Oh, it smells so good.
As soon as I walked outside of the coffee shop,
I could smell what you had going on over here.
You've been part of this market before.
What's it like?
Oh, it's wonderful.
The community here is very supportive.
We really appreciate being able to talk to you.
able to get it out into the community and,
you know, showcase our products. But more
than that, it's about bringing people together,
making sure that, you know...
Everybody wants to support a small business,
and this is a great way to do that.
It absolutely is.
Okay, let's head next door, and we've got Sheila joining us.
So, Sheila,
tell us about the name of your business and what you have here.
Yeah, so I'm Sheila.
I'm the co-founder of Sturrain.co, named after my mom,
who loves quality things and is so resilient.
I launched this business just two months ago.
Wow, good.
Thank you.
But most people in Austin know from my skincare brand,
but this is all the different things that I have to offer here.
I'm originally from Kenya, so when I launched the brand,
I wanted something that presented home.
This is traditional kitenge fabric you can wear
for all types of seasons, it's 100% cotton
so if you're a woman you're getting nice quality goods.
It is an infinity dress
so this one dress you can wear it 10 different ways.
So actually I'm wearing one of my items
that I'm going to launch in November, it's like
a bubble top, it has a high-low situation here,
perfect to wear with jeans.
um and i work with two families in kenya
so one family makes the garments
that i have on their racks
and then i have another family that makes these
wool throw blankets this is big enough to cover a queen size bed
so it's perfect for on your bed you can have it
on your couch you can have it on
a picnic table use it on the ground as a picnic
blanket i also have leather goods here these are handmade
sandals from nairobi kenya made from the same family who works
On the sandals for us,
and then right next to them is our beloved skincare brand, Akini Skin.
So when we launched the brand, we wanted
to put all the things in one house.
You are busy. Congratulations. Stunning top, perfect for fall.
I smelled this cucumber dew toner. Fantastic.
You can visit Sheila this weekend.
Sunday is when the market is here at Neon Belly.
It kicks off at 10 a.m. in Elizabeth
with Hodge Podge. What you got going on?
I have lots of wonderful, one-of-a-kind items
that are provided by different vendors in our local shop.
We actually have a brick-and-mortar store off of United Drive.
And we bring together a community of local crafters,
makers, artisans, Miss Rachel's Handmade Jewelry,
We have some artwork from our local artists
that display on our gallery wall in the shop.
I brought a few pieces, watercolors and acrylics.
We also have some gemstones, which are my favorite, but I kind
of don't have a favorite because I love everything in our shop.
And we also have super spiffy stuff that makes the little keychains.
We have hidden...
pages book company which she does blind date with a book
and this is so much fun. I never
knew what this was until she showed me
but basically she wraps these books up and then
gives you an idea of what the book might
be and also includes some little gifts and things with
it. What a fun gift. Okay this is just a small preview
of what's going to be at the market on
Sunday guys. We'll send it back to you.
Check in with a few vendors in the next hour. Good day Austin.

Tiara Newbaum's out there this morning with a preview. Hey, Tiara.
Hey guys, I always love checking in with local vendors,
makers, and folks in our community,
a way we can support local.
And Morgan, this is fun, Tree Treats.
When I saw this on our little brief
for what we've got going on today,
I was like, what is this?
So tell us about Tree Treats.
Yeah, so Tree Treats, I work with local coffee shops
to take their wasted coffee grounds
Normally it just goes in the trash and so I take it,
I dry it out, I add kelp and biochar
and then people can help close the loop.
Take the used coffee grounds, give it back to trees,
plants, gardens, wherever they want to put it.
Okay, so how is this nourishing our plants?
Why are these ingredients specifically great for our plants?
It's a great question.
So number one, it's just organic material.
Okay.
So you have still great organic material that's in the coffee grounds.
It's rich in nitrogen.
Then the kelp and biochar is that additive
that just kind of brings it all together.
The more you know. Okay,
we've got a lot of plant parents in our community.
They can get their hands on some treats for their trees.
And then we have Pamela here with Wild Halo.
This is such a fun and really cute brand.
So how'd you get started and what's this is all about?
So we're an Austin-based lifestyle brand centered around wake surfing.
I was inspired by my love for the water and wake surfing,
so I wanted to create something
that was fun for the local culture and community.
I love everything soft and cozy.
It is.
I've been browsing through the racks.
Okay, let's talk about some of the options.
So you guys have cute little shorts and tops.
Yes.
Sweatshirts. Tell us about everything.
Sweatshorts. They're so cozy. I live in them
and at home. And then these cute little tops with our logo on them.
Really, really cute.
The one I'm wearing with the angel wings.
And for you, since you're a new mommy,
we have a mommy and me line over here for the littles and
For the mamas.
Okay, this is great, too, because,
folks, this is all about wake surfing.
They can unzip this, throw it over their swimsuit,
and then a line of hats, too.
Yeah, I have these camo ones, like I'm wearing the surf ones.
We know that Austinites love their wake surfing,
love getting out on Lake Austin or Lake Travis.
So what a fun brand.
Okay, you can meet Pamela this weekend at Neon Belly Coffee and Bakery.
And Gigi, we've met before at OMG Squee.
Okay, so you're going to be out here this weekend at Neon Belly.
What do you have?
I have, of course, I have my jewelry that I make.
And I also still have my Ghibli Miyazaki film paintings.
As well as my culture art, Filipino artworks and stickers.
And you can see, you probably didn't see this one last time.
At the end, I have my cactuses.
Because I like cactus.
And I like to paint them.
They're beautiful. Okay, what's it like being part of these markets?
Have you been to the Neon Belly market before?
But obviously you're part of several markets around town.
What does this mean to you and to other locals?
First of all, I like coffee, so I like to do the coffee markets.
And when they reached out to me to do the Neon Belly this year,
I wanted to be a part of it because I've organized events before
and I wanted theirs to be successful, so I signed up.
Okay, how's it been going?
It's been doing good, yeah.
I mean, I've only done like one because we got rained on the other one.
But, I mean, so far so good.
People are coming out, and it's been fun.
Sunday, 10 o'clock, it all kicks off here at Neon Belly.
Guys, we'll send it back to you in the studio.
So much good stuff to choose from.
I love coffee, too.
Coffee and shopping.
Grab your cup of joe and yum.
That'll get people out.
Perfect Sunday to me.
Thanks, Tia.
