A deposition links a Republican women's group
to those mystery texts that were sent out
to Texans.
The messages promoted resources for transgender students.
Shannon Murray here with details on what the deposition revealed.
Shannon.
Brandon, this morning we have some answers and more questions.
That deposition named the Republican Women's Caucus Fund,
but that group also denies involvement
in the texts and mailers that were sent out with a similar message.
This week a judge ordered the messaging company
that sent the texts on behalf of its clients.
The Texas Tribune reviewed the deposition
and reports that the text came from a political action committee,
the Republican Women's Caucus Fund, and a man named John Braun.
No other details were provided about Braun.
The texts and mailers provided information linked
to the Transgender Education Network of Texas, also known as TENT.
The group said it did not create or approve the texts and mailers.
It asked a Travis County judge to identify the sender, which...
It believes was trying to rile up voters before the midterm election.
The Republican Women's Caucus Fund
also sent a response to the Texas Tribune saying, quote,
we did not authorize, fund, direct, coordinate,
or participate in these activities in any capacity.
They say they are now also pursuing legal action
to protect their organization
and hold those responsible accountable.
Lauren and Brandon.
