A judge has ruled Deja Coleman,
the Gwinnett County mother accused of murder after she left
her 16-month-old son in a hot car,
can go trick-or-treating with her two other children
on Halloween. Fox 5's Ray Urena is live outside
the Gwinnett County courthouse tonight
with more on what happened in court today. Ray?
Russ, that hearing inside
of the courthouse lasted just under an hour and a half this
morning, and the judge reached
that decision after Coleman's attorneys filed a motion
to either modify or clarify her bond.
Deja Coleman can go trick-or-treating
with her two surviving children while out on bond.
That's what a judge decided during a hearing Thursday morning.
Coleman's attorney says the 29-year-old,
who lives in a transitional housing complex,
is allowed to undergo therapeutic programming according to her bond.
Your Honor, what could be more therapeutic
than spending time with your children?
On a holiday, creating memories and some sense of normalcy.
Coleman faces charges of second-degree murder
and cruelty to children after police say she left
her 16-month-old son in a hot car back in July.
She was granted bond back on September 9th.
The way that I interpret that was that you want her to be able
to be a part of that community and utilize the facilities.
And the resources that that community has
to be able to help her during this time.
But the state is concerned at what point do you draw the line?
Prosecutors pushed back.
She is on house arrest.
Bond is a privilege.
Trick-or-treating and being out in the community
is not a regular condition of bond.
After prosecutors continued their argument,
it led to this back and forth with the judge.
I believe she would be a danger to other children
as well as our own children argument.
Okay, I've already ruled.
And don't bring that up again.
I've already ruled she's not a danger to her two children.
Ultimately, the judge agreed with the defense and granted their motion.
I'm giving you permission on Saturday to trick
or treat only to the four buildings
or the community center if there's a Halloween party
for the children with your two children.
While Coleman is allowed to trick-or-treat, the judge ruled
that she is not allowed to leave the complex at any point.
The judge also allowed Coleman to work the front desk
at the complex to help offset her room and board.

All right, Ray, thanks.
