We have new details tonight about what authorities say
was a detailed plan to shoot up Cherokee
High School.
Three people are in jail tonight charged
with conspiracy to commit murder.
Fox 5's Denise Dillon is live in Canton.
And Denise, arrest warrants revealed
the extent to which these three were planning.
Yeah, and the details are alarming.
According to the warrant, they knew the exact layout of the school.
They planned what to wear
and even picked a date to carry out the attack.
It's very shocking, and we have grandchildren that are school age,
and it's really scary to think about.
The Cherokee High School community is still reeling after
police say three people planned a shooting at the school.
A juvenile former student, 17-year-old Shane Taylor of Metter, Georgia,
and 21-year-old Michael Terry of California
are all charged with conspiracy to commit murder.
You know I'm just thankful that the
We're able to stop it, so whatever they're doing worked.
A tip to the FBI about social media posts uncovered the threat.
Local and state law enforcement acted quickly.
Canton police say they made arrests and seized firearms,
ammo, and electronic devices.
Luckily, all of that was taken care
of before anything was actually put into place.
Arrest warrants showed the three had obtained floor plans
of Cherokee High School
and picked a date for the attack, August 20th.
Two weeks into the 2027 school year,
the warrant shows acts supporting the conspiracy include
the agreement to provide weapons for the event,
the planning of outfits to wear,
the necessary items to purchase, including body armor,
video cameras, and combat boots.
In a message to parents, the superintendent praised first responders.
Knowing that the processes and protocols of CCSD worked
and that the network of law enforcement partners
is vigilant is reassuring,
but it unfortunately does not entirely take away my personal emotions,
and I know it won't completely eradicate yours either.
It's sad. It's overwhelming.
You know, my heart aches for it all.
And we still don't know how the three knew each other.
That 21-year-old from California has
not yet been extradited to Georgia.
Reporting live, Denise Stillen, Fox 5 News.
Yeah, good on authorities for stopping this,
but children should not have to live under this kind of threat.
Denise, thanks.
