Moscow has begun restocking its storage depots with armored vehicles after they were depleted during the first two years of the full-scale war with Ukraine. New Russian T-90M tanks are being sent to the 22nd Central Tank Reserve Base, located 500 kilometers from Russia’s border with NATO countries like Estonia, Latvia, and Finland . The armored vehicles are not being sent to the war in Ukraine.
Analysts believe this armored equipment may be being prepared for an attack on one of the NATO countries, since Europeans are not equipped to fight a war against drones and will not be able to destroy them effectively, as the Ukrainian army does, according to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
In 2024, the publication, in collaboration with OSINT analysts, conducted a study in which an analysis of satellite imagery revealed that Russian storage bases for old armored vehicles had been emptied during the first two years of the war in Ukraine. Russian tanks and armored personnel carriers were destroyed by drones. Since then, the Russian army has adapted to the new conditions of warfare and has begun sending endless waves of infantry—moving in small groups and infiltrating behind the Ukrainian army’s lines—into battle instead of columns of armored vehicles. As the new data shows, Russian factories have continued to produce new tanks and armored personnel carriers all this time, while also repairing damaged vehicles. Subsequently, this equipment began to fill the emptied warehouses.
New satellite images show that new armored vehicles have arrived at the 349th Central Tank Storage Base in Topchikh in Altai Krai. Analysts believe that refurbished 2016-model T-72B3M tanks and BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles are being sent to the base. At the 22nd Central Tank Reserve Base in the city of Buy, Kostroma Oblast, new T-90M tanks and new BTR-82A armored personnel carriers appeared between October 2025 and October 2026. The publication notes that this storage base for new tanks is located just 500 kilometers from the borders with Latvia and Estonia, both of which are NATO members. Moscow denies having any plans to invade a NATO country. But as early as last June, Finnish journalists noticed on satellite images that russia had begun large-scale construction work at a military town located 100 kilometers from the border with Finland.
In June of this year, an investigation by Scandinavian media revealed that Russia is expanding military bases near the borders of Northern European and Baltic countries. Analysts believe that the armored vehicles russia is currently stockpiling may be intended for an attack on a NATO country, as Europeans are unprepared for war involving drones and will be unable to effectively destroy them, as the Ukrainian army does.

Video Summary
AI GeneratedRussia is restocking its armored vehicle depots with new T-90M tanks and refurbished equipment after heavy losses in Ukraine. Satellite imagery shows these assets are being concentrated in bases near NATO borders, specifically near Estonia, Latvia, and Finland. Analysts suggest this buildup may be preparation for a potential attack on NATO members who are perceived as unprepared for drone warfare.
