Russia's Krasnodar Krai and Samara region were attacked by drones overnight on August 8. As a result, large fires broke out at two oil refineries, according to OSINT channels.

The strikes hit the Ilsky oil refinery in Krasnodar Krai and the oil refinery in Syzran. Initially, social media channels reported that the oil refinery in Syzran was "smoking." "Local residents reported an attack in the area of the AVT unit and oil storage tanks," one of the Telegram channels reported.

It should be noted that local authorities confirmed the attack, as Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev reported.

"Dear residents of Samara region. One of the industrial enterprises in Samara region was attacked by enemy drones overnight. The aftermath is currently being dealt with. Emergency services are working at the site where the drones fell. Information about casualties is being clarified," the official wrote on Telegram. Russia's Samara region lies roughly 800 kilometers east of the Ukrainian border.

Social media channels circulated footage from the site of the strike, showing a red glow and thick black smoke engulfing the refinery.

The Ilsky oil refinery in Krasnodar Krai was also damaged in a drone attack. The region's operational headquarters confirmed the incident. According to official information, debris fell on the refinery grounds.

The footage clearly shows flames that Russian rescuers appear to still be trying to extinguish. Krasnodar Krai lies in southwest Russia. It borders the Sea of Azov to the northwest, which separates it from mainland Ukraine. To the west, the Kerch Strait separates the krai's Taman Peninsula from the Russian-occupied Crimean Peninsula, which is internationally recognized as part of Ukraine. Distances from the Ukrainian border to locations in Krasnodar Krai range from about 250 km to over 500 km.

As is known, Russia is periodically targeted by drone attacks, most of which are aimed at energy infrastructure, including oil refineries and facilities related to the gas industry.

There can be no talk of Russia exporting oil. On the contrary, the aggressor has been forced to purchase it from abroad, for example, from Russia-friendly Belarus.

Meanwhile, Russian gas stations are facing fuel shortages, and when gasoline is available, it is being sold at inflated prices. Just days ago, Ukrainian drones struck the Yaroslavl oil refinery.
