Ukrainian ballistics are ready: FP9 missiles fly to Moscow

Ukraine is testing its own FP-7 and FP-9 ballistic missiles, capable of striking military targets deep inside Russian territory. Denis Shtilerman, the owner and chief designer of Fire Point, told journalist Dmitry Gordon that Ukraine could carry out its first ballistic missile strikes on Moscow as early as this fall.

Shtilerman said the new missile is now in the final stages of testing. Once those trials and test flights conclude, he said, strikes into Russian territory will begin. The military will choose the targets, but he expects the targets to be significant from the start.

Asked by Gordon when strikes on Moscow would begin, Shtilerman said: “This fall.” He added that a more precise timetable could not yet be given, since it depended on the results of engine testing.

“We’ll fuel the engine, put it on the test stand, run a burn test and see how it performs. If there are any issues, we’ll fix them. But we’re moving very quickly. I think it will happen this fall”, he said.

Fire Point is one of the largest contractors for the Ukrainian military, producing the long-range strike drone FP-1 and the FP-5 “Flamingo” cruise missile. Ukrainian authorities have already reported carrying out isolated strikes on Russian territory using the “Flamingo.”

Fire Point officially announced development of the FP-7 and FP-9 ballistic missiles in September 2025 and showed the first test launch of the FP-7 in February 2026.

The latest comments follow an earlier interview with journalist Alesya Batsman, in which Shtilerman said that Fire Point is preparing for serial production alongside testing.

The company plans to manufacture between 10 and 20 missiles for test launches, with production potentially increasing to dozens of units once the weapon receives official codification and procurement approval. In June, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine was nearing completion of its own ballistic missile capable of striking targets on Russian territory.

He said Ukraine’s previous strikes against Russian military facilities using domestically produced drones and missiles showed that the country would not “simply die silently” but would continue to respond and strengthen its defense capabilities. Ukraine previously announced the successful test of a next-generation ballistic missile in 2024, though its specifications were not revealed.

Kyiv is also developing the Sapsan ballistic missile system, which has a reported range of 500 kilometers. Ukrainian officials said in June 2025 that serial production had begun, while Zelensky said in December that the missile had been used in its first combat operation.
