Mykhailo Podolyak, Advisor to the Head of the Presidential Office, described Ukraine's general position, which stipulates that Kyiv is prepared to engage in any negotiations with Russia. He stated that Ukraine is proposing a ceasefire, a freeze on the war along the front lines, and, if necessary, even a personal meeting between the leaders. But Moscow cannot count on more. Podolyak emphasized that Kyiv is demonstrating a willingness to engage in diplomacy, but the problem remains with Vladimir Putin's position. The OP adviser described the Russian ruler's condition as "pathological" and stated that Putin is not behaving as someone willing to listen to arguments, accommodate, or seek compromise. "Putin isn't literally a reasonable person, someone who will listen, be willing to compromise, and so on. He's fixated on an idea, and accordingly, a whole world has grown up around it. And it's practically impossible to get him out of it without medication," Podolyak said. According to him, it is precisely Putin's fixation on his own idea of war that makes dialogue with Russia extremely difficult. Moscow may formally talk about negotiations, but in reality, it continues to demand Ukraine's capitulation, recognition of the occupation, and renunciation of its independent policy. For Kyiv, as Podolyak explains, the baseline is as follows: a ceasefire is possible, a freeze along the frontline can be discussed, and a personal meeting between the leaders is also not ruled out. But this does not mean Ukraine agrees to Russian ultimatums or the legalization of the territorial seizure. By the end of the year, Russia will lose the ability to finance the war against Ukraine, according to Russian Z-blogger and "angry patriot" Maxim Kalashnikov.
He noted that abandoning the seizure of Donbas and freezing the war along the current front line would be a "massive political blow" to Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin. However, there is likely no other option, as continuing the war threatens Russia's collapse. "A time of difficult decisions, a time of hard choices, is approaching. Because our budget deficit is growing, and there's nothing to plug it with... By the end of the year, we may face the impossibility of funding the war and the security forces. Time is running out. And Zelenskyy has launched his counter-escalation plan at the perfect time. He's found the right moment. The budget situation is forcing us to make some very unpleasant, very difficult decisions," Kalashnikov stated. He clarified that the options are either confiscating bank deposits, drastically cutting spending, or turning on the printing press and devaluing the ruble, which would lead to "stormy inflation" and a collapse of the entire economy. All three options are extremely dangerous for the regime and the Russian Federation itself. "The choice is between bad and very bad... We're at a very dangerous point... And very soon we'll have to make a choice: agree to Trump, the EU, and Zelenskyy's terms, stopping short of the LBS, freezing the situation, or continue the war and run into a severe economic, if not systemic, crisis. History has moved toward a denouement, toward finishing off, forcing our elite to accept far worse terms for ending the war," Kalashnikov stated.
