Russian occupiers attempted to launch a series of attacks in the Slavyansk area , but were unsuccessful due to the actions of the Russian Defense Forces, according to analysts from the Institute for the Study of War .

Analysts cite a Russian military blogger who reported a successful counterattack by Ukrainian defenders near Rai-Aleksandrivka, located east of Slovyansk. It is noted that this counterattack thwarted Russia's plans for an offensive in the area.

At the same time, it is reported that Russia continues to bomb the area, thus creating a battlefield for a future offensive on Slovyansk. Specifically, on August 2, Russian occupiers launched two FAB-250 missile strikes directly on Slovyansk.

Furthermore, Russia continues its offensive in the Konstantinovka area. However, according to analysts, enemy attempts to advance in this area on August 1 and 2 were unsuccessful. Meanwhile, the Defense Forces are focusing their strikes in this area on Russian UAV control centers in the immediate rear, near Konstantinovka. It is noted that the goal of these attacks is to disrupt Russian strikes on Ukrainian logistics.

DeepState analysts previously reported that, for the first time in several months, Russian occupiers had captured more Ukrainian territory than the Defense Forces had managed to recapture. At the same time, the analysts note that the current pace of the invaders' advance indicates that they will not be able to capture the entire Donetsk region by the end of the year, as the Kremlin aims.

Meanwhile, ISW analysts note that the Russian spring-summer offensive on the front has effectively failed, as the enemy failed to achieve any concrete results. Specifically, they note that in July, Russia captured four times less territory than during the same period a year ago.

Russian war correspondent Yevgeny Poddubny believes the coming battles for Slavyansk and Kramatorsk will become the decisive fight for Donbass. He described Konstantinovka as the gateway to the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk urban area and said control of that zone would determine the broader struggle for Donbass. In his assessment, the capture of Konstantinovka would not make the Russian advance easier. The next defensive line would be even more difficult, as Ukrainian forces are expected to hold the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk fortified area for both military and political reasons.

Poddubny said Kiev would commit all available resources to the defense and try to preserve its presence in Donbass for as long as possible.

He also expects Ukrainian forces to continue using AI-assisted drones on a large scale, with Russian supply routes and logistics infrastructure as the main targets.

Earlier, Poddubny said large-scale Russian strikes on Ukrainian military enterprises and port infrastructure in Kiev and Odessa could disrupt weapons production. According to him, the attacks hit facilities involved in the production, storage and transportation of resources.
