The Russian military command is lying to the Kremlin about the scale of its successes in northern Ukraine , claiming that Russian troops are actively advancing throughout the entire theater of operations, including a section of the front line that has remained virtually unchanged for almost two years. This is what analysts at the Institute for the Study of War write in a report .
Thus, on July 29, the Russians announced the capture of Nova Sich, and on July 30, the capture of Mala Slobidka and Mohrytsia in the Sumy region, as well as Virivka in the Kharkiv region.
At the same time, ISW notes that the Russian army has been announcing the capture of a new settlement in these two regions almost every day, starting at least since July 22. "ISW has not observed any indication that Russian forces have carried out the necessary number of redeployments, concentrations of equipment, or increased offensive operations commensurate with the size of the territory they have claimed to have seized in recent days," the report said.
The Ukrainian Defense Forces also denied Russia's claims about the capture of Mala Slobidka, Mohrytsia, and Nova Sich by Russian troops.
It is noted that Russian infantry continues to conduct infiltration missions in the north, and service members continue to film videos and use AI to alter or create videos of Russian soldiers holding flags in populated areas where Russian forces may have infiltrated only to falsely claim to have captured those flags. Analysts say the Kremlin is using these claims of success to convince the United States and other Western countries that Russia's war is going so well that the West should withdraw its support.
At the same time, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are attacking in some areas of northern Ukraine, which contradicts the Russian version of the advancement of troops throughout the entire theater of military operations and without resistance.
Thus, the Ukrainian Defense Forces liberated Odradne in the Kharkiv region, as confirmed by an ISW assessment. Furthermore, Ukrainian forces conducted counteroffensives near Nova Sich, Mohrytsia, Ivolzhanske, and Pisarevka, slowing Russia's advance in these areas. Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy disclosed data on the losses of the Ukrainian Defense Forces and Russian occupiers during the full-scale war. He noted that the Russians suffered more significant losses.
Zelenskyy stated that Russia's losses amount to 1.6 million people. Around 700,000 people were killed. According to the president, around 50,000 Ukrainian soldiers were killed. Another 400,000 were seriously wounded. Meanwhile, Trump expressed doubts about the transfer of Patriot technology to Ukraine . The US President stated that Washington should be extremely cautious about transferring advanced American weapons production technologies.
