During Russia's attack on Ukraine , North Korean KN-23 ballistic missiles were again used. Furthermore, the Russian navy launched the bulk of the cruise missiles from its base in Novorossiysk, thereby again "inviting" a Ukrainian strike. Aviation expert and leading researcher at the State Aviation Museum, Valeriy Romanenko, told Unian.

"A few days ago, information emerged that North Korean missiles had begun arriving in Russia again. And today, this has already been officially confirmed," he said.

According to him, the Air Force had previously reported strikes on Ukraine with Iskander-M/S-400 missiles. "At least over the past two months, there have been no reports of the use of KN-23 missiles. Therefore, it is likely that this is a new shipment of missiles from North Korea. Previously, there were reports that Russia received up to 50 such missiles from North Korea," Romanenko said.

The expert added that another feature of today's enemy attack was the massive use of anti-ship cruise missiles, which Russia has used quite rarely this month.

"Of the 61 Kh-101/Kalibr cruise missiles launched, more than two-thirds were naval missiles. The Russian navy launched the majority of the missiles, which indicates that it once again invited Ukrainian strikes on the Novorossiysk base, since that's where the launches were conducted. It begs the question for our good drones to visit the base because, supposedly, 'they have no engine,'" Romanenko said. The expert noted that during the current air attack, the Russians also launched four Zircon/Onyx anti-ship missiles.

"The bad news is that they were launched from the Kursk region, since previously launches were carried out from Crimea. This means they've developed a ground-based launcher," Romanenko added. He did not rule out that such a device could have been used in Crimea.

"The fact that a ground-based launcher has appeared in the Kursk region indicates that the Russians are beginning mass production of ground-based launch systems for the Zircon/Onyx missiles. This will give the enemy greater strike capabilities," Romanenko said.

Recall, Russian authorities introduced a temporary ban on vessel movement in and out of the Novorossiysk port from midnight to 5 a.m. due to Ukrainian drone attacks. Publication sources in the grain industry said the directive was issued verbally, and no official document regarding the prohibition has been published. Agency sources noted that the port continues to operate normally outside the restricted night hours, and grain exports have remained unaffected.

On July 21, a government order was published prohibiting vessels from anchoring in areas lacking air defense capabilities at the port of Azov in the Sea of Azov and the port of Kavkaz in the Kerch Strait.

The port of Novorossiysk became the primary logistical and operational hub for the remnants of the Russian Black Sea Fleet after an intense Ukrainian strike campaign forced Moscow to urgently withdraw its warships from its naval base in temporarily occupied Sevastopol.

Despite the relocation, Ukrainian forces continue to launch regular attacks on the Novorossiysk base using explosive sea drones, against which Russia has unsuccessfully tried to defend by installing physical barriers in the water.

According to the UK intelligence reports, the Russian military command has begun installing specialized anti-drone cages on its submarines stationed in Novorossiysk in an attempt to protect them from Ukrainian strikes.
