Ben Affleck and Casey Affleck are mourning the loss of their mother, Chris Ann Affleck.
The former teacher died on June 2 at the age of 83 after battling pancreatic cancer,
according to The Hollywood Reporter. Her obituary says she passed away peacefully in her sleep.
Chris was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in December 2025 and was given six months to live.
Born Christopher Ann Bolt in New York City in December 1942, Chris went on to graduate
from Harvard University before spending 35 years teaching in public schools. She retired in 2008.
She welcomed Ben in 1972 and Casey in 1975 with her then-husband, Timothy Affleck. The
couple later divorced when Ben was a preteen. Chris is survived by her two sons and five
grandchildren. Ben is the father of Violet, Serafina, and Samuel, while Casey has two children,
Indiana, and Atticus. According to her obituary, one of Chris' biggest wishes
after receiving her diagnosis was to see Atticus graduate from high school. She was
able to attend his graduation ceremony on May 31, just days before her passing.
The obituary also described how proud she was of her family, saying she celebrated
their accomplishments while encouraging them to think independently and challenge authority.
Over the years, both Ben and Casey have spoken publicly about the important role their mother
played in their lives and careers. In a 2006 interview with Boston Magazine, Casey said his
mother was really supportive of his acting ambitions. The following year, Ben told Parade
that he first got into acting because one of his mother's friends worked as a casting director,
describing it as something he fell into as kind of a lark. Chris Anne Affleck is being remembered
not only for her decades as an educator but also for the lasting impact she had on her family
and the careers of her two sons.
