Oh, I was so excited to win because, um, Evie hates my beard.
She does.
So much.
I also told her that if I won, I would shave it off.
Oh, you did?
Yeah.
And?
I still got it.
Would you—you want to—
What?
Can we shave you on the show?
I know—
Stephen Colbert has zero Fs left to give.
Despite CBS canceling the late show, they still took home a major Emmys haul.
And Colbert stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live, where things got a little hairy.
You see, Colbert explained that his wife, Evie McGee, doesn't like kissing him with
a beard.
So Kimmel brought out a pair of clippers, and Colbert said goodbye to his Gandalf the
Grey era.
Colbert sported this scruffy look when he won the Emmy for the newly merged category
Outstanding Variety Series.
Kimmel gave his buddy a smooch before he took the stage, where he thanked his wife of 33
years.
There can only be one favorite guest, and that is my wife, Evie McGee.
Thank you, darling.
Thank you for being my only crew and my only guest during COVID, my only audience and the
only audience I really care about.
Yours is the laugh that I want for the rest of my life.
I love you.
Evie was also a guest on her hubby's last week of shows, after 11 years on the air.
Aww.
At the Emmys, Colbert beat out his late-night pals Kimmel, Jon Stewart, John Oliver, as
well as Saturday Night Live.
His speech was surprisingly devoid of politics.
However, over on Kimmel, Colbert had more colorful words to say about his former gig.
He compared the job of digesting the news and trying to make it funny like drinking
a cup of poison every day.
He also likened it to being lowered like carbon rods into a radioactive pool.
It's true, late-night TV has become a minefield of controversies, sparking a national debate
over free speech.
In September, Jimmy Kimmel's show was briefly yanked off the air over an offensive joke.
And last week, a source told Page Six that ABC didn't renew Kimmel's year-to-year contract,
which ends in May 2027.
This comes after CBS canceled the late show in July of 2025, calling it a financial decision.
But Colbert had called his network's parent company's $16 million settlement with Donald
Trump a, quote, big fat bribe.
Colbert's final show aired on May 21st, and Trump was apparently watching.
That night, just before 2 a.m., POTUS took a victory lap on Truth Social, writing,
Colbert is finally finished at CBS.
Amazing that he lasted so long.
No talent.
No ratings.
No life.
He was like a dead person.
You could take any person off of the street and they would be better than this total jerk.
Thank goodness he's finally gone.
Well, it seems like the 27,000 voters in the Television Academy disagree.
Colbert has personally won 14 Emmys over his career, and fans are excited to find out his
next move.
In the meantime, the Hobbit-loving host has been tapped to write an upcoming Lord of the Rings film.
