AI GeneratedThe New York Yankees may have a second chance to acquire superstar Bryce Harper after failing to sign him in 2018. With reports suggesting the Philadelphia Phillies might shop Harper, the Yankees could rectify a major management error by Brian Cashman, pairing Harper with Aaron Judge to bolster an offense that struggled significantly with on-base percentages this past season.
An MLB insider has dropped a bombshell trade update around
the MLB with one of the biggest
and most famous stars who Brian Cashman famously did not go for,
despite the fact that he would
have made one of the biggest signings
of his management career by doing.
And with the Aaron Judge era coming slowly
and slowly to its final chapters, the Yankees
have the chance to rectify one
of Brian Cashman's biggest mistakes during this Judge era by
acquiring none other than Bryce Harper a man
who went to the Philadelphia Phillies because the
Yankees would not give him an offer Harper always wanted
to play for the Yankees growing up a fan
of the team he's back playing the outfield
which gives Judge a chance to DH some more while Harper
could also DH and play some first base here
and there if the Yankees need to even though they do
have credit for first base room all in all guys
the Yankees now have another chance to go grab
Bryce Harper we're going to dive into exactly how they can
do that real quick guys make sure to go
ahead and subscribe to the channel
because 66% of viewers watching us right now are not yet
subscribed it's completely free we got videos every single day
and one thing surrounding Harper
and the Yankees has always been that he wanted
to go to the Yankees the Yankees did not end up
making a move for him and he is the type of guy
who does help the Yankees get further back on track
it locks in Harper for the final years of his prime
with the final years of Aaron Judge's prime
and the two get a chance to really put
a ring together for the Yankees and Harper would be
such an incredible weapon that would somewhat mirror what
the Yankees had with Juan Soto for
a year and guys obviously we know that went well
but Bob Nightingale recently did discuss this
saying that he floated some Bryce Harper shopping recently
and honestly this is where things have
changed for the New York Yankees in regards
to this Nightingale said I think they will shop guys
and it's been talked about a lot that Bryce Harper
is one of those names who they will shop
Harper obviously is a very, very talented player.
He's still great.
He had an OPS of 865.
His best season coming in 2021 without a shadow of a doubt,
but outside of that has always been a very good player,
has a high batting average, could lead off for the Yankees,
is no stranger to hitting home runs,
insanely talented at getting on base,
a .385 on base percentage since 2018.
I mean, it's hard to not look at these numbers
and think the Yankees should go make a move for him.
Look, he's only 33, so he's still not old.
He just joined the MLB so young.
And then on top of that,
what we saw is a Yankees team that struggles to get on base.
Harper does that.
He also went back out into the outfield.
I know he made a bad play, but at the same time,
it would let Harper and Judge kind of switch off DH roles a little bit,
especially with there being talk
of the Yankees potentially trying to use Luis Garcia
at second base last year or next year, as he has had,
that he's played a little bit of second base in the past,
and the Yankees will totally explore that option.
So because of that, the Yankees now do have a dream scenario
of bringing Harper to the team,
which is one of Cashman's biggest errors ever.
I mean, we look at Bryce Harper and the Yankees,
and I mean, back in 2018, the Yankees bowed out.
Cashman said outfielder's not a priority.
They didn't sign him.
He joins Philadelphia on a 13-year contract through 2031,
and now the trade possibility resurfaces
as Nightingale does expect the Phillies to start shopping.
guys and obviously this is the type of scenario where
the Yankees they can have their GM right
or wrong that really we still look at Brian Cashman
with a wrong way about I mean we look
at Cashman and he's not perfect he's made good
moves he's made bad moves he's not perfect and
people have really turned on him but he's made good moves
and around the league his reputation
is insanely good now here's the thing we look
at this and it was such a drastic mistake to not go
for Bryce Harper truly a detrimental move by the Yankees overall
but now even though Harper is a
little older even though there's questions about him
in the outfield ever since he came off Tommy
John we've seen him go back out there and we've
also seen a real scenario that the Yankees say
you know what screw it let's take this chance we want
to make Aaron Judge happy we want to try to
win let's finally just say screw it and go all in it's
also in case Yankee fans their complaints
about Brian Cashman does get to Hal Steinbrenner it
also helps Cashman right or wrong that has
haunted him for his career i mean this man's contract
is reaching his final year right now
Cashman has been with the Yankees longer than i have
been alive as a human being obviously he's a
very he's had a very very big deal
and recently we can look at his kind of window with the Yankees
now i mean he agreed to a four-year contract
that ended through 2026 back in 2022 then it was
expected that he would return back in August it
was mentioned that as a report said he's expected
to be back in 2027 but no verified new agreement has established has
been established in this
research now here's the thing about Cashman
as well with an MLB lockout likely coming he's not
going to be able to make moves but he's
also not going to be able to really discuss anything with
the players as long as that is a situation
at hand I don't think the Yankees are going to move on
from a guy who's been doing this job
for this long it just feels completely and utterly unlikely
that now they would decide to move on.
It would be a weird year for them to move on.
The biggest argument on Aaron Boone's saying
is because managers can't talk to players,
and depending on how long this lockout lasts,
it could become a very, very kind
of sticky situation at the end of the day.
So I do understand where it comes from.
But also on the discussion around Cashman, he said,
At no time all winter have I said that I'm
not looking for an outfielder back in the day.
But at the same time, he kind of did say that.
And the Yankees, they just didn't go over Harper.
And it is really, it was a bad move overall.
But now he's got the second chance to revisit the decision fans.
Not even still debate, they just fans hate.
Restore the confidence through a better roster.
Also getting an on-base beast.
And make baseball value the priority.
Does this solve all the Yankees' problems? No.
Does it kind of feel in a way like a classic Yankees move?
Yeah, a little bit.
Is it also a good move to make to get in the good graces of fans
and to also add a guy who's a great offensive player
when the Yankees' offense was terrible this year?
I mean, the fifth worst batting average in the league.
They were not getting on base.
Harper does both those things well.
He brings in a guy to put second to have Aaron Judge bat third,
and you could really honestly have Ben Rice lead off for the most part
and kind of got a great 1-2-3 to start it off.
You figure out fourth, you could put
Cody Bellinger, something like that.
And again, it lets Judge rest.
He only has to play 81 games in the outfield.
Harper will play the other 81 most likely,
or probably not even that many,
but he'll play some of them.
They'll have Helio Ramos around or Spencer Jones.
Someone will get out there.
Jones will be the everyday center fielder next season,
though, with Bellinger and left.
So probably Ramos would be the other guy
that they would use there a good amount.
But still, it just gives the Yankees the guy
who they had a chance to get and really did screw up.
Now, Harper's still got some money remaining.
The Yankees might try to leave Philly
with some money over these next couple of years,
over the next five years, into 2031.
Now, it's honestly not that bad of a price,
$25.4 million, the way the contracts have,
the way they've become, the deals that Juan Soto,
Shohei Ohtani, they're on, which they're
not going to stick around.
It's going to be a talking point in the lockout.
Overall, what we are going to see is a bit of a change.
So I do think that this is a deal the Yankees can totally afford.
They just can.
Let's be real.
They can afford it.
And yeah, maybe it'll be the worst years of his career,
but he's still an effective player
and there is a chance for a redemption arc right here.
But I do want to ask you guys, would trading
for Harper change your view of Brian Cashman?
Comment A, yes, if you think the price is right.
B, only winning will change that.
Or C, this move comes too late.
It's a classic New York play for a big name
that is not going to have the impact that
we hoped he would.
So it is going to be super interesting
to see how that all kind of works out.
But at the end of the day, guys, I do want to hear your thoughts.
So leave them down below.
