The New York Yankees have given multiple updates with the return of Aaron Judge today.
We have now seen Aaron Boone speak out on what Judge's role is going to be,
how he's going to play, how much he's going to play, and also what things are going to look like
for the rest of the season, especially with the Yankees dealing with a few outfield injuries,
a few replacement guys, and also the breakout of a new Yankees star in Spencer Jones and Jones,
how all of this is going to get impacted going forward, not just for the first couple of days
of Aaron Judge's return, but for the full return of Aaron Judge, and we will explain what that
means in just a moment. But guys, make sure to go ahead and subscribe to Yankees Digest if you

great content, bringing down all the latest Yankees news, reports, and everything else
surrounding the team. And obviously, there is big news today. It is the return of Aaron Judge.
We know that. That's been announced. He's returning today, Tuesday, September 8th,
as the Yankees superstar and best hitter of this generation returns to the field
after missing a ton of time, not playing in all of June, July, or August with a broken rib. But
now Judge returns for the playoff, for the final playoff push, we should say. They still have a
chance to go out there and find a way to get that AL East first place spot, though it will be hard,
and they're going to need Judge to perform at his best, but there's a lot of good questions about
how much is he going to perform at all? Aaron Boone did reveal that Yankee fans should expect
Aaron Judge to be eased back in and be subbed out early in some games before playing a full
nine innings, as mentioned by Aaron Boone on Talkin' Yanks. Here's the thing,
this is not surprising to see. The Yankees, more than anything, wanted Judge to come back,
but did not want to rush him back to the point where he was going to get re-injured. They were
afraid of that when Sandon got re-injured, and then, well, kind of re-injured again, though it
was his other calf that he injured, so not exactly a re-injury. But overall, with this happening to
Aaron Judge right now, we do see where this team is standing. We see that they are in a spot that
they do want to use Aaron Judge, but they don't want to rush him back into anything so he's
dealing with pain or not playing up to the standard that everyone expects out of Aaron Judge. And
Judge is so important to this team, considering how awful the Yankees hitting has been ever since
he did go down. In 84 games the Yankees played without Aaron Judge so far, they, or not so far,
it's over now, they had a .227 batting average, a .295 on-base percentage, and a .385 slugging
percentage with a .681 OPS, which was 26th in the league, a 90-weighted runs created plus,
which is 29th in the league, a 7.1 fangraps reward, which is 25th in the league, and a 26.1
strikeout percentage, which is the worst mark in baseball. It's safe to say the Yankees certainly
have needed Aaron Judge to get back on the field and be back to being as good of a hitter as we've
seen in modern baseball. When we look at Judge, what matters here is that he is going to be back,
and the Yankees, they're not stupid, they know exactly what they need out of Judge,
they need him to hit, and Aaron Boone and the Yankees coaching staff, all the way up to Brian
Cashman and the medical team, they're going to make sure that Judge is able to hit effectively
and be able to go out there and play his best baseball offensively. That's what matters more
than anything is the bat. Look, right now, yeah, the Yankees certainly are low on outfielders.
Trent Grisham went down with an injury and might not play again this season. Cody Ballinger's great
in left field, nothing else to say there. Spencer Jones' fielding has been nothing short of awesome,
but you start to look at who else can play the outfield. We've seen Jose Caballero step into
the role a little bit, we've seen Jason Dominguez come back up and have mixed results, kind of at
best when we look at his fielding, and then on top of that, we also do see that Ahmed Rosario's
played it, but he has not been super effective at all this season, and would really only expect
it to be out in the outfield, probably in right field, on games where they are facing lefty
pitching if they don't want Judge out there. Which does raise another question, because as I
mentioned, Spencer Jones has been playing right field this season, ever since Judge went down.
Viewed as their future center fielder, their center fielder of the future I should really say,
because this man is going to move to center field sooner rather than later, especially
the injury to Trent Grisham, the Yankees always saw Jones having a career at center field, but
now they look at him and he might stick around in right for a little bit longer, but
would that really make sense? We've already seen him make the move to center field since Trent
Grisham went down, and there was a lot of thought that he should have been already being the center
fielder by the time Grish was still out there, and I was in full agreeance with that. I thought
Jones was perfect out there, I thought he's the most athletic player on the Yankees, he's got a
great arm, he is their center fielder of the future, so I think they should go with him
sooner rather than later, and it's certain once Judge comes back, who obviously has played a bit
of center field with Bellinger as well, that Bellinger and Judge are going to be in the corners
with Jones out in center field. It just makes the most sense, let Jones cover the most ground,
and honestly, as good as a fielder as Cody Bellinger is in left field, and could probably be
great in center as well, he's been so good at left field, I don't see a reason to change that.
Just put Jones out there, give Spencer Jones the chance to get a chance, or to give him a chance
to go out there, should I say chance one more time? To really show that he does belong out there, and
it does make sense. I mean, Jones is at a point where you have to play the man. I mean, over his
last 15 games, he's hitting with a 304 average. At the same time, his on-base percentage is a 360.
The slugging is a 585. For those counting, that is a 925 OPS over his last 15 games. It's not a
debate. Spencer Jones is here, and this man is a future star for the Yankees, so put him into the
position he's going to be playing for the majority of his Yankees career now instead of waiting,
because Trent Grisham, when he was there, is there, and Trent's not there anymore. I mean,
hopefully he'll come back in some capacity, and I wouldn't be shocked if they kept him as a fourth
outfielder who they want the bat for because he's a clutch hitter, but overall, Jones has also shown
that he doesn't care where he plays. Jones speaking on Spencer Jones, or on Aaron Judge
coming back, saying it doesn't get much better than having a lineup addition than a three-time
MVP. Having a guy that injected into the lineup playing every day is going to be huge for us,
because we found ways to win without him this year, and to add him in there is going to give
us that extra layer of offensive firepower, and they don't need an extra layer of offensive
firepower. They need offensive firepower, man. I mean, as Kirshner mentioned, the Yankees have
survived more than three months without Judge, who last played May 31st in their lineup. Since June
1st, the Yankees are 45-39, tied for the ninth-most wins in that span. Their pitching has carried the
weight in Judge's absence. The Yankees' 3.24 ERA since June 1st is the best in the MLB. Meanwhile,
their offense has catered since losing Judge. Only the Los Angeles Angels have a worse offense
by way that runs creative plus during that span. It's not that they need an extra jolt of offense,
as I said. They need a jolt of offense. Aaron Judge will give them that, so even if he is
DH-ing, which I honestly think he should for an extended period of time until a little bit before
the playoffs, just so he can get his legs back under him for playing in right field, it makes
sense to keep Aaron Judge out there in right field. Have Spencer Jones go to centerfield now,
and let Jason Dominguez do it for right now. Look, I know Dominguez has not been great, but he is
still young. There is still potential there, and to me, it just makes sense. Use Jason Dominguez.
See if you got something there, and let's see if you can learn how to really get the fielding down,
and you never know what could happen. It might raise his trade value, if nothing else. So, let
me know what you guys think about this in the comments down below. How do you feel about the
return of Judge? What do you want to see out of him now that he is back? Let me know in the comments
down below. Be sure to get back to you guys. I'm locking in on answering a bunch of comments.
