AI GeneratedThe New York Yankees are eyeing the Japanese market to solve their persistent struggles at third base. The primary target is Teruyuki Sato, a high-performing third baseman/outfielder from the Nippon Baseball League. With current options underperforming, Sato's combination of power, contact, and on-base ability makes him an ideal candidate to revitalize the Yankees' lineup.
Something huge is brewing for the New York Yankees
and it is amazing because we know Brian
Cashman for a while has wanted to tap back
into the Japanese market for baseball talent and with
the Yankees needing a clear change at third base everything
is working out perfectly for the New
York Yankees to get back into that market
and acquiring a player who I mean literally could
not be more perfect for this team right now
as he gets ready to head over to the MLB as the top
Japanese target this year
and the Yankees this is the type of player that we can all be sure
they are going to make an offer
to based off position based off really the one position they
would actually pay for right now
and on top of that also trying to make a big statement in free
agency and guys we're going to dive into all
this why it's the perfect move for the Yankees and why
we will see them go for this and 66% of you guys
are not yet subscribed to the channel so make sure
to go ahead and do that it is completely free we
got videos every single day we got YouTube shorts
coming your way as well and we're going to have
a lot of fun on this channel and guys diving into
it Brian Cashman has said year after year
that he really does want to tap back into the Japanese
market it's tougher if you're an east coast team Japan is just
so much closer to the west coast
and obviously we've seen so many players go
to the Dodgers recently from that whether it's Roki
Sasaki Yoshinobu Yamamoto obviously Shohei would already come over
and went to LA to begin with
it's not an uncommon theme to see a lot
of Japanese players go to the Dodgers where there's
so many connections now
but we have seen this not always happen Zuma Okamoto did go to the Jays
and Munetaka Murakami went to the White Sox
and now it's time for the Yankees to make sure
Teruyuki Sato goes to the New York Yankees
which is certainly a move that we can all see
coming now it was mentioned by Yankees worldwide
the third baseman slash outfielder Teruyuki Sato
Sato is expected to make the jump
from Japan's Nippon Baseball League to the MLB this winter.
This is the type of move for the New York Yankees.
It not only gets them back in there,
but also makes a ton of sense for the Yankees.
I mean, the Dodgers right now,
there's a lot of questions of if they would make a move
for a third baseman in general.
And the Yankees, we know they would be willing to pay for him,
especially because he helps
their contact and power hitting so much for this team right now.
It just makes a ton of sense for them to make this move.
I mean, look, we all know they need to change the third base.
Ryan McMahon is not cutting it.
We all know he's not.
He has not had a good tenure with the Yankees.
He's been unable to ever hit for any contact.
That's never been his game, but the fielding
last year took a bit of a dip as well.
McMahon's coming off a season where he had a .213 batting average,
a .635 OPS, 11 home runs.
He just was not an effective player.
His WAR was a 0.0.
There's really no way the Yankees can justify having McMahon
as their everyday third baseman
next year, and Ahmed Rosario was also unable to perform,
leading to the Yankees really
needing to go out there and get a new third baseman.
Obviously, second base is a question as well,
because we do have to understand that Jazz
Chisholm will not be back with the Yankees as well.
It's also pretty likely that we just see Anthony Volpe
and Luis Garcia Jr. playing second
base most of the time next season.
So as long as that's the case,
I do think it will make a ton of sense that the Yankees
do lock in on third base.
and really try to solve that problem.
I mean, McMahon in general has
not been the guy to use in this situation,
so it really does come down to the fact that they need a big upgrade,
and they have a chance to really get a big upgrade,
as Sato could fit the Yankees' third-base
plans pretty much perfectly right now.
I mean, we look at a guy in Sato who has had a lot of success in Japan
and now gets ready to head over to the MLB.
This is a man who last year in 2026 was downright awesome.
he had a .306 batting average overall I mean
the slugging percentage the OPS is in the 900s it's
in the high 900s so I mean nearly over one
so overall we do see that this is the type of guy
who the Yankees should be going for someone
who could hit for contact and be a true leadoff hitter
for this team finally giving them a guy
who will get on base which is what they need a guy would
have .383 on base percentage last year that is what
the Yankees really need to look at and understand
okay this is the type of move that really gets us back
on track right now because we get a guy who
could be our leadoff hitter we can
then have Ben Rice bat second and Aaron Judge bat third
have Bellinger fourth and all of a sudden we're looking at this lineup
and things are looking
pretty damn good for the Yankees because
then they have guys we can get on base a lot more
adding just a leadoff hitter really does change things
for the Yankees right now and I mean again
We look at the numbers.
He also had 39 home runs with 106 RBIs,
scored 100 runs, had 40 doubles.
The man can run.
There's no doubt that not only does he get on base, he can move.
So he's the type of guy who they should go at.
I mean, the power does come with some contact questions.
He did strike out a good amount, and the strikeout rate's high,
but he walked a decent amount.
And overall, there needs some form of translation,
but at the same time, when you're hitting over a .300 batting average,
having a .383 on base percentage i i can't really
become concerned i just don't see how anyone could
be if i'm being completely honest guys like i don't think
that's a problem at all if anything
I think this is really a good sign, I mean the man established his power
and then he got a triple
crown production in 2026, now he's waiting
for his MLB posting news, this also comes with the caveat
that there is the lockout that's incoming
so Sato will have to be very very strategic on
when he posts so he doesn't miss his window
and goes back to Japan for another year would be the
end of the world for him, no I don't think
so at all I mean I really don't think he's gonna lose
a ton of sleep over this, but also he's in position
to get paid well, last year was kind of strange the
payment didn't go over well for any of the guys
who came over from Japan I mean obviously Yamamoto
got a massive contract offer from both the Yankees
and the Dodgers and signed with the Dodgers and
the weather was warmer and then after that things
were a little bit I mean obviously Roki Sasaki
didn't wait he came over before and is on a rookie deal
but uh then we look at I mean Murakami who
was someone who there was valuations
of him getting over 300 million dollars and he signed a cheaper
two-year deal with the White Sox
because the contracts weren't the same, same thing ended up
happening with Kazuma Okamoto who made considerably
less money than people thought on the three-year
deal he signed with the Toronto Blue Jays
and not even be a full everyday player, but for Sato he's
better than these guys when it comes to the ability to field
and move and get on base and
there will be a market for him, especially how damn good Murakami
was this season, it shows this
translates the power translates
the contact pretty much translates solidly, Murakami's not a contact
hitter, he's a good baseball player
and a great hitter in general, but overall we look at what
the third base production is with Ryan McMahon
and it just wasn't really gonna do much for you
like overall the average, the base percentage, the slugging
the OPS none of it went above the 25th
percentile in baseball, it was not good, it wasn't
at all good, there's no way to really justify it
the only way to really justify it is the fact
that he's making 15.4 million dollars next year
you can't trade that contract no one's going
to take it the Yankees are probably going to have to
eat it but there's also a chance
that McMahon doesn't make it through or he becomes a platoon
player for the Yankees and if he does
that you know what it's fine he can kind of play a few
different positions though he's mainly a third baseman
and frankly it is what it is if they have
to bring him back on that I'm not going
to lose sleep over Ryan McMahon being on the team it's
just more we want to see things change up a little bit we
are I mean depth chart is going to be a lot
different from what it was this season the Yankees fielding
was not good enough and at the same time
they definitely felt like they were missing out
on kind of everything that would really help them
and then we look at Sato and look obviously he's going to be talented
and he'll play somewhere I
mean right now the shortstop game is going to go
to George Lombard Jr. third base would be Sato
second base would likely be a mix of Volpe
and Garcia first base would be a mix of Garcia
Rice and maybe maybe Paul Goldschmidt
but the yankees looks is sato a left-handed power bat
yes do the yankees have a left-handed power bat
and Ben Rice yes do i care no i don't care at all
look he's a younger alternative to veteran trade targets as well
and also the potential to improve
the third base outlook
and guys we a lot of us know this third base has been cursed ever since
Gio Urshela so like they need a third baseman they really
do no one's done well they need to
make a change Sato is the type of guy you make
a move for but I'm curious what you guys think
about this let me know in the comments down below like
