Iran has threatened missile strikes against American military bases in Europe—in Italy and Germany—if Washington resumes hostilities in the Middle East. These statements were made by two members of the Iranian parliament's National Security Committee . Amid these threats, rumors have circulated online that Tehran is preparing missile strikes against Kyiv, Lviv, and Odesa. Ukraine's Center for Countering Disinformation has dismissed this information as fake news.

According to Euronews, the threat was made by Ahmad Bakhshaesh Ardestani, a member of the Iranian Parliament's National Security Committee, who emphasized that Tehran had not launched attacks on Europe in the two previous wars. "If America uses its bases in Europe, particularly in Italy and Germany, Iranian missiles will be launched toward Europe. We didn't do that in the two previous wars, but this time we will not let Europe's assistance to America's attack on Iran go unnoticed," Ardestani stated.

According to him, "the tangible and intangible assets of countries that assist the United States" could also be at risk. This threat was confirmed by another committee member, Fada Hossein Maleki.

Iran reacted positively to the Republicans' defeat in the US midterm elections. Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf declared that the American people "said 'no' to war."

Rumors of a threat to Ukraine are based on screenshots allegedly taken from an Iranian television broadcast. On the map of Europe shown, Ukrainian cities were marked not with dots, but with explosion icons.

The Ukrainian Center for Countering Disinformation refuted this information: the original broadcast showed a different image, and the distributed screenshot was fake. The CCD believes such fakes are aimed at causing panic among Ukrainians by creating a false threat of missile strikes from Iran.

The threats came amid reports of a possible resumption of US war against Iran. The Wall Street Journal previously reported that Washington had warned the Persian Gulf countries of this possibility. According to the newspaper, this is expected to occur after the midterm congressional elections, which took place on November 3.

In early October, the Pentagon sent another aircraft carrier to the region. According to the German publication Bild, this is the USS Theodore Roosevelt and its escort ships. Washington also deployed 10,000 troops to the region.
