Military cooperation between Moscow and Tehran continues to expand amid the war in the Middle East. Russia has agreed to supply Iran with 90 guided missile launchers, despite US President Donald Trump's claims that the Kremlin's aid to Iran is insignificant, according to the Financial Times. The FT has obtained a production schedule for 2024-2025 from a major Russian defense company. The document was provided to the newspaper by the Ukrainian private intelligence firm Dallas Analytics. It lists an export order for helicopter launchers, and the buyer is identified by a code name used in Russian defense documentation for Iran. The document also mentions Vympel, a leading Russian developer of missiles and launchers. The APU-L and APU-305 mounts in question are designed for Russian LMUR light multipurpose guided missiles, also known as Izdeliye 305. Russia is using them in strikes against Ukraine. This precision-guided weapon is capable of engaging moving targets. The mounts are mounted on Mi-28 helicopters, which Iran already operates. Western intelligence agencies estimate that Moscow and Tehran have further strengthened their military partnership this year, despite US President Donald Trump's assertions that Russia is doing "very little, if anything at all" for Tehran.
Media previously reported, Iran has established military procurement through a network of more than 5,000 companies and intermediaries, with Russia and China facilitating the supply chain in circumvention of international sanctions. According to journalists, Moscow and Beijing are helping Tehran obtain necessary military supplies, despite sanctions and the American naval blockade. Russia primarily delivers cargo by ship through the Caspian Sea, while China uses cargo aircraft. One example is detonators that can be used in missile and drone warheads. In June alone, after the war with the US had already begun, Iran purchased $1.9 million worth of such products from Russia. Since January 2025, Moscow and Tehran have carried out at least five detonator deliveries, totaling $7.6 million.
US President Donald Trump's claims that Moscow is not providing significant military assistance to the Iranian regime are untrue. At a minimum, Russia is providing Tehran with satellite data for strikes against American allies in the region. This was reported by the Associated Press, citing data from the private Geneva company AURORAH Geosignal Intelligence. Experts analyzed 40 missile and drone strikes by Iran and its proxies against Saudi Arabia from July 1 to October 19, 2026. In each case, activity by Russian military and government satellites was recorded over the targets. They conducted reconnaissance of the targets several days before and several days after the strikes. The company's founder, Nawaf Obaid, called the study's results "a 100% match." Oil depots, oil pipelines, pumping stations, and military facilities came under attack from the Iranians. "Russia is helping Iran and its regional proxies attack Saudi Arabia's oil and military infrastructure, thereby raising global energy prices ," the article states. Saudi Arabia confirmed the information, noting that the Iranians are receiving intelligence not only from Russia but also from China. Riyadh has discussed these issues with Moscow and Beijing, but the results are unknown. "Russian satellites also supported Iran's March strikes on Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, where a US reconnaissance aircraft was seriously damaged, as well as a CIA unit inside the US Embassy complex in Riyadh ," the AP noted. Moreover, the missiles and drones Iran used in the strikes contained Russian and Chinese components.
