Azerbaijan's growing role in global political processes, independent foreign policy course and strategic position keep our country in the spotlight of the world's leading states. US President Donald Trump's invitation to President Ilham Aliyev to the G20 Leaders Summit to be held in Miami on December 14-15 is one of the important diplomatic manifestations of this reality.

In the modern system of international relations, the influence of states is measured not only by economic and military potential, but also by the ability to influence global political processes, diplomatic relations and participation in international cooperation platforms. It is especially noteworthy that Azerbaijan is not a member of the G20. Nevertheless, the invitation of the country's President to participate in this prestigious event, which brings together the leaders of the world's leading economies, at the personal invitation of the US head of state, indicates the increase in the international political weight of Azerbaijan.

The G20 is one of the most important platforms that brings together the main actors of the world economy and discusses global economy, financial stability, energy security, international trade and geopolitical issues. Inviting the head of state of a country that is not a member of such a platform can be seen as a political assessment of that country's role in international processes.

Today, Azerbaijan is not only one of the leading states of the South Caucasus, but also an important transport and logistics bridge between Europe and Asia. Our country's participation in the development of East-West and North-South transport corridors, the delivery of energy resources to international markets, and its contribution to regional security increase Azerbaijan's geopolitical importance. In this sense, Donald Trump's invitation demonstrates that Azerbaijan is a partner that is taken into account not only regionally, but also globally.

The importance of the invitation should also be assessed in the context of the new content that relations between Azerbaijan and the United States have recently acquired. The meeting between President Ilham Aliyev and Donald Trump in Washington on August 8 last year, the establishment of the Strategic Working Group on the preparation of the Azerbaijan-US Strategic Partnership Charter, and the support given to the peace agenda in the region laid the foundation for a new stage in bilateral relations. In the telephone conversation between the two presidents on August 8 this year, it was emphasized that Azerbaijan-US relations have acquired a strategic character. President Ilham Aliyev thanked Donald Trump for the invitation to the G20, evaluating it as a manifestation of the friendly attitude of the United States towards Azerbaijan. Thus, the G20 invitation has a broader meaning than a random diplomatic gesture. This is an indicator of the intensification of political dialogue between the two countries and the development of cooperation based on mutual interests.

One of the main factors increasing Azerbaijan's international importance is its contribution to energy security. Country plays an important role in diversifying Europe's energy supply. The Southern Gas Corridor, the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline and other international energy projects have strengthened Azerbaijan's position as a reliable partner. At the same time, the development of the Middle Corridor, the expansion of cargo transportation across the Caspian Sea and the strengthening of trade relations between the East and the West further increase Azerbaijan's role in the global economic system. Participation in a platform such as the G20 creates additional opportunities for Azerbaijan in terms of presenting these opportunities to international partners, attracting new investments and expanding the geography of economic cooperation.

The policy implemented to ensure peace and stability in the region also plays an important role in increasing Azerbaijan's international prestige. The agreements reached between Azerbaijan and Armenia on the peace agenda in Washington on August 8, 2025, opened up new prospects for the future development of the region. The TRIPP project has the potential to strengthen the position of the South Caucasus on the international transport and logistics map. These processes show that Azerbaijan plays an important role in ensuring regional security, expanding economic integration, and forming new formats of cooperation. Participation in the G20 summit will provide President Ilham Aliyev with an additional diplomatic opportunity to convey Azerbaijan's position on these issues to the leaders of the world's leading states.

The importance of participation in the G20 summit for Azerbaijan is not limited only to increasing political influence.
