BREAKING: Chiefs make SNEAKY good signing... Major Injury Updates | Kansas City Chiefs News
Nov 1, 2026
Here's some breaking news.
The Kansas City Chiefs have just made multiple moves,
including signing a cornerback.
That is very, very interesting.
We're going to break down that signing.
But more importantly, L'Jarius Sneed,
a brutal update surrounding him
as the Kansas City Chiefs have moved him to the IR.
And also a brutal update surrounding Mansour,
Delaine, we're going to break down the new moves,
the new signings, the transactions,
and the latest surrounding Sneed and Delaine,
because all of these have huge implications
going forward for this team. Before we get
into all of it, a very quick reminder to hit that subscribe button.
We're on the road to
5,000 subscribers. Let's start with L'Jarius Sneed.
And Sneed's return this summer was one
of the best feel-good stories on this roster.
He was a fourth-round pick in 2020. He won two
Super Bowls here. And in March of 2024,
the Chiefs traded him to Tennessee because they couldn't
I wouldn't afford to pay him long term.
Tennessee gave him a four-year $76.4 million deal, and it went about
as badly as it could as he played only five games in 2024,
suffered multiple injuries, started 2025 in the PUP list, and all
of a sudden, unfortunately, was just injured for the past few seasons.
The point where Tennessee released him, and for a corner,
had been one of the toughest players on two Super Bowl teams.
It was a brutal fall, and then the Chiefs brought him back
on a one-year deal for $5 million.
Cheap, low-risk, a guy who knows the system.
And when he was on the field this year, he already forced two fumbles.
But folks, this was coming. It was unfortunate.
The knee had been a problem now for over a month,
and they load-managed it after the bye.
But he was limited all week before the Chargers game.
Questionable two weeks in a row.
Played through it in Seattle.
We could see that the injury was very, very clear.
And at the end of the day, folks, the unfortunate reality is he's hurt.
He wasn't playing to his standards.
And now he's been placed on the injured reserve,
which means he's going to be missing a minimum
of four games, which means the earliest he can play is week 12.
And honestly, for a guy who's fought
his body for three straight years, it hurts.
We all wanted it to work.
And at the end of the day, this is the right call.
It was clear that he was going to be probably put on the IR.
The problem is now who is going to cover his place?
Because this room is already thin, and we're going
to dive into the signings in a minute,
but Mansour Delain, let's start with him.
Obviously the sixth overall pick in April,
the first corner taken in the whole draft.
He's been solid. Five games,
had a pick in the opening game of the season.
But guess what? He has a shoulder injury
that's been following him since the spring.
Hairline fracture kept him out of minicamp
and week one against the same Broncos.
He hurt it again on his pick return.
He did not practice Thursday.
He didn't practice Friday.
Andy Reid said, we'll see how he is going forward.
Now, moments ago, he's confirmed out.
He is not going to be playing the game tomorrow,
which now creates two holes at once.
And let's remember what this room looked like a year ago.
Trent McDuffie, Jalen Watson, both to the Rams.
So who's left?
You have Noel Smith or sorry, Noel Williams,
Christian Fulton, Christian Rollin Wallace,
Kerr Elam, like...
All those guys, but there is a new name.
Now, the two names you'll hear for the start will probably be Fulton.
He's probably the main guy, Rollin Wallace, maybe Noel Williams.
But there is now a new name they just signed
for depth surrounding the cornerback position.
Let's talk about him because I think he's
more interesting than people realize.
His name is Melvin Smith Jr.
He's from Bossier City, Louisiana,
and he's played four years at Southern Arkansas, a Division II school.
He started all four years there, and in 2023,
he was a Division II first all-team American.
And in his college career, nine picks,
46 pass breakups, he's a corner that finds the ball,
and then came his pro day.
He's listed at 6'1", 185, and he ran a 4.39 40.
Length and speed, you can't really coach either one.
Now, he did go undrafted, and the Chiefs
signed him after a tryout in April of 2025.
He spent most of the year on the practice squad,
and they called him up to the active roster
on Christmas Eve of last year.
And this summer, he ran with the starters in camp,
and when Delaine and Snead were both out,
he started the first preseason game.
Then, he hurt his rib in the third preseason game,
and on August 30th, he was cut.
Tennessee claimed him the next day, which is hilarious because it
almost seems like the same story as Legarius Need in that regard,
but ultimately they cut him again and the Chiefs brought him back.
So that tells you something, right?
Like another team, albeit the Tennessee Titans, liked him enough
to claim him, but the Chiefs wanted him back the minute he was free.
So what does he bring Sunday? First, special teams. That's how
a guy like this sticks and it's why the Chiefs valued him in camp.
Second, he's a real body on the outside who knows our defense
with the speed to carry a vertical route if needed.
What we don't know is how he holds up in regular season snaps.
I couldn't find a single regular season snap for him.
So obviously at this point, like we don't know how he's going to play.
But what matters here is that we talk about
practice squad signings all the time.
A lot of people think they don't matter.
They matter a lot, whether it's because of injuries,
whether it's because of anything.
At the end of the day here, folks,
we have some players who are going to be starting
tomorrow and playing over the next few days
that no one expected to actually play because
of injuries.
Here's also why this signing matters,
and a lot of people aren't talking about this.
Keep in mind, a practice squad player can only
be elevated three times a year,
which means signing him means he's on the 53-man roster,
he's paid like it, and nobody can poach him.
Now let's dive into some of the other updates in the practice report.
They also brought in Tyreek Smith.
He's a defensive end from Ohio State, a fifth-round pick in Seattle,
or rather by Seattle in 2022, 6'3", and weighs 255 pounds.
He's played three NFL career games, but that's it.
And over his last two seasons at Ohio State,
21 quarterback hits, the most in the Big Ten, and his road here,
Seattle drafted him, then Arizona had him, and the Chiefs signed him,
and then cut him, and then they cut him again back in August.
There's a clear kind of path here
and a clear kind of storyline this is all following,
and that's the Chiefs cutting guys, bringing them back,
and then cutting them again because their roster got too crowded,
but then bringing them back when it matters. So it's clear now
that this team really likes the players they bring in.
This is a standard elevation, so it's only for one game.
After Sunday, he goes straight back to the practice squad,
and this is his second elevation of the season, so he has one left.
So why now?
Well, obviously, Mason Thomas missed
Friday's practice for personal reasons,
and he's questionable, though it's expected he'll play.
Defensive tackle Omar Norton-Lott is out with a knee injury,
and remember, his 21-day window opened,
so he might be back fairly soon.
And quite frankly, this pass rush desperately needs bodies,
and the Chiefs don't have a single player with more than one sack.
The good news from practice, because there was some,
Rasheed Rice, like I covered yesterday,
He's set to play practice all week.
He's going to be ready to go.
Travis Kelsey, no injury designation either.
And of course, on Wednesday, they signed Justin Tucker.
Really hate it.
Reid said we try to do our homework the best we can.
Apparently had an insane, insane tryout, but I don't care.
He's a terrible person.
But regardless of that, the offense is getting healthier.
The defense is not.
And it's against the Denver Broncos team,
who has one of the best defenses in the NFL.
They're going to have to step up.
Because if they don't, they will, you know,
they'll kind of start to fall down the standings.
The Chiefs are 5-1, the Broncos are 5-2,
you win, and Kansas City has a real grip on the
AFC West.
In week one, the Chiefs obviously destroyed Denver,
but that was with Snead and Rice,
and it was a game in which Delane got hurt.
And think about who covered for him the night after he left.
A lot of those snaps are the same snaps Melvin
Smith Jr. and these backups are about to take
on Sunday in Denver in front of a crowd
that has been waiting two months for this one.
And they're coming off a brutal loss in Seattle.
So this is a huge, huge game for the team,
both on a confidence level and the standings.
And we know the defense loves to blitz.
But when you blitz, your corners are on an island.
So they're going to have to see how,
or rather we're going to have to see
how the defense holds up.
Folks, let me know down below
what your guys' thoughts are on this.
Obviously, the Melvin Smith Jr. signing
is not a massive one.
It's not going to blow everyone away.
But it's important.
And maybe even more importantly
is the unfortunate news of LeGarrius Sneed.
He's going to be out at least four more games.
Obviously, Rashee Rice is back.
Mansoor Delane, unfortunately, is going to be missing the game as well.
So this team, especially on the defensive end, is severely undermanned.
But guess what?
I have full faith in this team.
The O-line, the defense, a big bounce-back game for Chris Jones.
I mean, arguably a bounce-back game for Patrick Mahomes,
depending on how you kind of view things.
But at the end of the day here, folks,
this is going to be a massive, massive game.
And one that has huge implications on the standings.
So where do you guys stand?
