Ukrainian defenders have discovered Russia's ballistic missile supply chain and have begun striking at its weakest links.
This opinion was expressed by Yevgeny Diky, a veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, former company commander of the Aidar battalion, and director of the National Antarctic Scientific Center, on Radio NV , commenting on the Defense Forces' strikes on Russian factories this weekend.
"We found the weakest links in this chain, that is, those with the least redundancy. They have almost no links where only one thing is missing. But when only two plants in Russia produce solid fuel, hitting two plants is not the same as hitting 20. We clearly traced these supply chains back to the missiles," Diky said. He added that if Ukraine had taken this path, then Kyiv had most likely accepted the fact that it would not receive enough Patriot missiles from the United States.
"Therefore, there are two ways we can defend against ballistic missiles without having Patriot missiles. Option one is to hunt for the launchers. Option two is to stop producing them. And we're currently seeing production become more complex. These supply chains are being systematically disrupted," Dyky added.
He also expressed doubts about the use of British Storm Shadow missiles by the Defense Forces in attacks on Russian production facilities, as Russia claims. Specifically, he said, the range of the British missiles raises doubts. Therefore, the expert believes the Defense Forces used Ukrainian-made missiles for these attacks. "We have our own Flamingos with a range of up to 3,000 kilometers and our own Bars with a range of up to 800 kilometers. And let's not forget the Long Neptunes. So, we have three types of our own products that can reach those targets. I'm not sure we'd waste Storm Shadows on targets like factories. The thing is, Storm Shadows are very precise. And it makes much more sense to use them on hard-to-hit targets. But large targets like factories—it makes much more sense to destroy them with our products. Therefore, I believe something from our arsenal was used there," Diky emphasized. As a reminder, recently, the Defense Forces of Ukraine struck a number of Russian facilities . Among them, the Proton-Electrotex plant in Oryol, which produces equipment for S-71 "Kover" air-to-air missiles, 9M723 "Iskander-M" ballistic missiles, and Pantsir-S1 surface-to-air missile systems, was hit.
Ukrainian forces also struck the Togliattikauchuk plant in Tolyatti, Samara Oblast, Russia. This plant produces synthetic rubbers, monomers, fractions, and high-octane gasoline additives. Russian occupiers use synthetic rubbers to produce solid rocket fuel for tactical and ballistic missiles.
