We started off today with the most beautiful overcast weather and a crazy pine needle snowstorm. The wind was blowing the pine needles right out of the trees like snow, and trying to catch them was practically impossible. Kira and Eleanor were so excited to finally have some cool weather, so Jamie and I decided to pack them up and hit the road for a massive upper peninsula adventure.
We drove deep into the woods looking for some spots we have not visited in over twenty years. First we tracked down Haypress Falls, which is this totally secluded gorgeous waterfall. Jamie even scrambled down into the gorge to get some amazing footage. Then we made our way over to Black River Falls. I am constantly telling the girls to be careful near the edges, but they absolutely loved exploring the trails and sniffing all the wild forest smells.
Later we tackled the giant hill up to Jasper Knob in Ishpeming, Michigan. For all you rock hounds out there, this place is incredible! The whole hill is a giant piece of Jasper and hematite, and it was so incredibly shiny. The girls loved the breeze at the top while overlooking their kingdom.
