Today is the day we are finally taking the Jayco RV out for our first camping trip since we lost Miss Memphis. I am not going to lie, packing up the rig brought up a lot of emotions for both Jamie and me. It is definitely going to be an adjustment traveling with just Kira and Eleanor, and we knew the dogs might feel the change too. Kira had a little bit of travel anxiety on the drive, but thankfully we brought her Happy Hoodie along and got her completely settled in for the ride up to the Upper Peninsula.
The drive north threw us a massive curveball with huge traffic backups right after we crossed the beautiful Mackinac Bridge. We survived the crawl through town and even passed through Germfask, where Jamie's family used to own a motel and bar! After what felt like forever, we finally arrived at Van Riper State Park. This is our very first time staying at this campground and the fall colors on the trees are absolutely beautiful. I did make a massive mistake and forgot the dogs lunch bowls in the fridge at home, but we figured it out and got them fed!
Once we got the rig leveled and set up, I drafted my fantasy hockey team right at the campground while enjoying the gorgeous lake view. We walked around checking out the playground and scouting for the dog friendly beach for tomorrows adventures. To wrap up our first day of fall camping, Jamie built a perfect fire and we made delicious campfire tuna melts. The huskies definitely tried to convince us to share! Life is short, Make memories with your dogs!
