Heavy rains in the Philippines caused by a southwest monsoon flooded many streets in Manila on Monday. According to Associated Press the main northern Luzon region has also been experiencing persistent rain. Last week, over 12,000 people were displaced by floods and torrential rains, while several cities and towns in the north suspended classes on Friday and Saturday, disaster-response officials said Sunday. The monsoon rains were preceded by a tropical storm that left at least six people dead. Four villagers were killed last week in a landslide and rockslide in the provinces of Benguet and Rizal, according to Philippine officials.
