Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei for the second time in as many days. Iranian authorities officially denied media reports of a possible deterioration in the Supreme Leader's health. Channel 14 reports this . The meetings discussed Iran's most pressing economic and military issues. The talks took place amid conflicting reports about Khamenei's health. Previously, sources close to the government reported a possible deterioration, after which Iranian state media released videos of the leader, seeking to demonstrate that he was continuing to carry out his normal duties.
Previously, media reported that Iranian leadership meetings were held under heightened secrecy and tight security. Because of this, the negotiators were allegedly unable to always see each other directly.
At the same time, personnel changes took place in Iran's security forces. Mohsen Rezaei was appointed the Supreme Leader's representative to the Supreme National Security Council, replacing Mohammad Baqer Zolghadr.
media previously reported that Iranian state media aired a video featuring Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei for the first time in a long time. The publication came amid reports of possible serious health problems for the politician and doubts about his ability to fully fulfill his duties. According to Iran's Mehr news agency, the published footage appears to show Khamenei attending a religious lesson. The media outlet presented the footage as a new video of the Supreme Leader, but did not provide the exact date or location of the filming. This circumstance leaves open the main question: was the footage actually taken recently? Prior to the recording's publication, Khamenei had not appeared in front of cameras since taking office and had not given any public speeches.
During this time, Iranian state media disseminated only isolated written statements attributed to the Supreme Leader. Khamenei's absence has sparked numerous rumors about his condition. The opposition publication IranWire previously reported, citing sources close to the government, that he has not held any personal meetings with cabinet members since the US strike on February 28.
According to these reports, the country's leadership discussed speculation about the supreme leader's extremely grave physical condition. There was no official confirmation of the allegations of a critical deterioration in his health.
Additional questions arose following a statement by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian last week. He acknowledged that maintaining contact with the Supreme Leader is currently extremely difficult.
Pezeshkian did not provide details about the reasons for the difficulties or Khamenei's condition. The president merely emphasized the Supreme Leader's importance to the continued work of the country's leadership.
According to available information, Mojtaba Khamenei was wounded in the US-Israeli airstrike that killed his father, Ali Khamenei. Mojtaba subsequently assumed the post of Supreme Leader, but remained out of public view for a long time.
