A Ukrainian drone struck the Tyumen Oil Refinery in Russia’s Tyumen Region on Monday, causing a fire at the facility. Tyumen Region Governor Alexander Moor said a fire broke out at the site and that emergency services were working at the facility. Moor added that he was personally monitoring the situation. The governor announced a drone threat in the region at 8:37 a.m. Moscow time. He also warned residents against publishing footage showing drones or the operation of Russian air-defense systems, saying such actions could result in legal penalties. It should be noted that videos showing fires following the attack have been shared in social media. The Tyumen Oil Refinery, formerly known as the Antipinsky Oil Refinery, is Russia’s largest independent oil-processing facility. It has a reported annual crude-processing capacity of approximately 7.5 million tonnes. The refinery also experienced a fire in early June. Russian authorities said at the time that the blaze occurred at one of the facility’s treatment units as a result of a disruption in the technological process. No casualties were reported. The latest incident comes amid Ukraine’s ongoing campaign of long-range drone strikes against Russian oil infrastructure and other facilities linked to Moscow’s war effort. Ukrainian authorities had not immediately provided an official comment on the strike. Tyumen oil refinery is located over 2,000 kilometers away from Ukraine-Russia border.
