The US and Israel are planning one of the largest bombing campaigns ever against Iran's energy infrastructure. The strikes could take place soon. CBS News reports this . According to sources, the military strike plan was discussed during a US Cabinet meeting on Friday. The attacks will likely target energy infrastructure, including power plants and oil refineries.
According to sources, Israel has been notified and is coordinating its actions with the United States. However, they clarified that Trump has not yet given final authorization for the strikes.
"High-level talks involving US officials regarding the power outage in Tehran took place on Friday, but no decision had been made as of Friday afternoon," the publication writes.
The joint operation would mark Israel's return to hostilities, which it suspended during the US-brokered ceasefire. While the US resumed attacks on Iran in early July, Tehran has not launched any strikes against Israel since then.
A former US official told CBS that targeting energy would impact the Iranian military's ability to provide services and effectively govern the country.
At the same time, a current Israeli official told the channel that Israel knows nothing about preparations for strikes on Iran.
"Israel is not aware of any decision to resume full-scale military action, and Israel has not been asked to join any military operations against Iran," he said.
But it's important to note that, according to The Wall Street Journal, Trump has already ordered a new attack on Iran with the aim of forcing Tehran to capitulate. The outlet's sources also say the attack could begin this weekend and last for several days.
Trump said the military campaign against Iran is progressing successfully, and that Washington's continued pressure should ultimately force Tehran to abandon further confrontation.
In an interview with Fox News, the American leader emphasized that the United States continues to strike Iranian targets and intends to maintain its current course. According to Trump, Iran will eventually have no choice but to capitulate. Furthermore, The Telegraph previously reported that the US and Israel are considering increasing economic pressure on Iran, including restricting border crossings with neighboring states. According to the publication, such a scenario would require the support of regional countries and could lead to retaliatory measures from Tehran.
